So I decided it's time to find a better place than the floor for my swords. I'm looking for a floor stand for my collection of 5 medieval swords. I was wondering if anyone could recommend an affordable floor stand that is appropriate for medieval swords. The majority of stands I see tend to be aimed towards katanas. Any help would be appreciated!

The appropriate Medieval sword floor stand is in the ribs of a slain foe, or in a rock so only the worthy may retrieve it. LOL, ok seriously good question, most sword stands are geared towards Asian blades. It seems to me that Euro culture did not create as much of a dedicated sword stand as the Asian cultures did. Though I am sure Euro Medieval swords were held in high esteem by their users it seems use of dedicated stands for their swords has not made much commercial impact. Most Euro sword "stands" I have seen were really displays. Stuff to hang on the wall, or even to stick a bunch of swords in like an umbrella stand. I will be interested to see what others might dredge up as it is a curious question.

You're right there aren't any specific "euro" stands commercially available. Check some of the larger collections and look at their solutions. I've been using oriental stands since I started collecting. They work fine: 16 point front and back stands can be had from trueswords.

Some stands like these might be useful, and if your handy with wood working easily made yourself. While shown with katana, I could easily see Medieval swords stored like this in the Medieval age. Set near the door easy to grab and go. Simple and functional. Pretty display but leaves the blades exposed and has no place for the sheath to be stored or displayed.

Thanks for the quick responses. We share similar taste in swords Dave, as 3 out of my 5 swords are displayed on your wall. I may find myself mimicking your display style, as I suspected I would be limited to oriental stands. Any other suggestions would be appreciated though.

After seeing images of these stands with medieval swords on them, I can see that they will function properly. I actually really like the 3rd stand shown in ineffableone's response, but I foresee an issue with the wider medieval guards when placed side to side like that...

It is a 10 sword capacity, so you could space your 5 swords every other one to give room and space between.

Gun racks work just as well and can sometimes be cheaper.

Thanks again for the help guys! I ended up ordering this gun/sword rack www.tuffstuff.us/custom/cart/edit.asp?p=134938 I like the idea of having the swords vertical and hopefully this will do the trick. I'll report back with my findings after it arrives. Cheers!

I just bought a sword rack for the wall. My problem with the European swords the crossguards overlap and it makes it difficult or dangerous to take the swords off the wall, unless you slide them straight out. I would prefer a sword rack that was spaced out much taller. Unfortunately I don't want to flip every other sword a different direction due to that being unsafe due to the location of the sword rack. And I don't want a sword rack that sits on the ground. Anyone ever seen something like this?

Cool you found that one $10 cheaper than SwordNArmory sells, good deal. I agree I like the vertical more than horizontal.

Hey guys so I received that stand today. DO NOT BUY THIS STAND. It is absolute garbage, the wood quality is closer to cardboard and the screw fittings came stripped. I had to put some of the pieces together with L brackets. After it was "assembled" I had two major issues. First is that I just don't trust it holding 5 swords, again the wood is beyond cheap and second, medieval swords fit really awkward in it, they have to be placed sideways and they don't fit securely AT ALL.. So I'm back to the drawing board..

First generation of these stands are crap. Sent my first one back. I tried again at a later date and got a different batch. Had reinforced cross pieces and they are solid as a rock. ( Own three of them) Don't know what to tell you to do. Press Sword and Armory about QC and maybe try again. They really do work;when you get a good lot.
But I DO prefer the 16 slot front and backs.

I def. got first gen. I have a feeling they won't take it back since I drilled my own holes into it. I can deal with a 50$ loss, I'm more concerned about finding a proper medieval sword stand and wall hanging is out of the question. I was actually thinking of getting a guitar rack like this: www.amazon.com/RockStand-Folding-Multiple-Guitar-Guitars/dp/B0002II99O seems like it will work with the wider medieval blades and I can actually go to a music shop to look it at before dropping the cash again.

Almost all single handed blades wont be fitting into that right, unless it is shorter than most products of that type.
