Deej, that is going to look incredible when you get it all done! I cannot wait to see this all done and mounted up.
Karma incoming.
Edit: Just got to thinking about how squeemish you probably were to modify those fittings. How long did it take for you decide where to make that first grind and then actually do it?

Tell you a secret there my freind-I had two sets of gunto fittings. One was a good deal thicker than the other so-thats the one I started with.I figured if I screwed one up-I had the other to fall back on.It took almost a month to decide on if I was really goona do it-but once I belt sanded all the rough surface and design off I was pretty much commited.1st hole was drilled/shaped out of the fuchi where the locking device had been-a hole was already there.I will post some photos today of the halfway piont and also of 2 possible blades to mount up.I amd really glad you like em Troy.

I do like them, Deej. Not just being polite.
I can see you've put in a lot of work and still have some to go rounding off the edges and smoothing things out, but it is easy to see how things are going to look and that it was an inspired idea.

Well Troy-the tsuba was the inspiration and again many thanks for it.So Josh-what do you think of the whole works done in black chrome???

I'd personally prefer the patina to match the finish of the tsuba. Troy, did you use a brass blackening solution or some other method? Dave, will you be adding the sarute and eyelets to the kashira or keeping it more of a hybrid? I see a classic hira-maki or maybe a katahineri-maki and depending on the menuki you could even go battle wrap with it. just throwin out stuff -Josh

Josh-I think I will be leaving a hybred and if I can duplicate the finish the Troy has done to the tsuba that is the route I would rather go-if Troy will reveal his method that is!?As you know I love a battle wrap but this may call for something differant.I have white or black cotten ito right now but somehow-I dont see these being the one as of yet.The menuki/will probubly done in the same style from brass I have here at home.Unless I find something that speaks to me.

No secret.
It was a standard brass blackening agent/chemical. I got it from Reactive Metals Studios, Inc. in Arizona. "Antique Patina", but I'm sure you can get pretty much the same finish from Birchwood Casey Brass Black. The finish is not as durable as I would like, so I would keep some on hand to periodically reapply, particularly on a fuchi/kashira that is going to see a lot of handling.
