Saito and Leoghan disagree. Period. End of that part of the discussion, says the Mod.
Back to the main topic: Has anyone heard/read anything about the MRL/Windlass Valeria's sword yet? In different threads we've seen the Atlantean sword, and someone is ordering a Father's sword. That leaves the Valeria sword.
I have the Marto Valeria's sword . . . eh, it's a piece of steel that's good for costuming, and that's about it.

I'm also rather curious about Valeria's sword. You'd think it would be potentially better quality, since it's much easier to make, but at that price, and since it's Windlass, I'm not exactly holding my breath on quality.

im with you on this one vincent,i had high expectations (though i should have known better) on the conan and fathers swords,so much so that i was very close to pulling the trigger, joeydc bit the bullet, and i wouldn't expect the valeria sword to be any better a damn shame but for a conan blade i guess you just get what you pay for

It did not seem so fragile so I cut some mats with mine and she remains firm, no loose parts, the pommel is not loose, I tried hard to remove, however it is very firm and not loose will is that my a line improved, a new line?

Hi everybody. I believe the first batch of Windlass Atlanteans did have some problems. But I bought mine recently, and I can tell you, it's very solid, nothing loose, the pommel is very secured, the twine on the handle is tight. I really think they solved the issues, after the critics they received here and on other forums. I believe MRL deserves a chance. So if you want a functional Atlantean, now is the time to get one. Before it gets backordered again. I hade to wait almost a year for mine... Regards, Alex.

That's encouraging to hear. Could you please post pictures and possibly give a review? The more we know, the better.

Ecovolo, I will take some pictures of my Atlantean and upload them to Photobucket, I just need to find some time... There's a video of my first cuttings with it here: It's amazing, feels just right cutting. You barelly feel the impact on the bottle. Please disregard the first 3 strikes, as I was getting used to it. So far, I can tell you that the blade is 4.5mm thick at the base, and 3.5 mm ant the end of the groove. It weights 3,5 kg (7.7 lbs). Of couse the fittings are made of cast metal, not bronze, so they were not made to take serious abuse. But for backyard cutting, if you have the strenght, it's perfect. I had it sharpened by Kult of Athena, and it's paper-cut sharp. The runes on the Ricasso are not as deep as I would like, but they are engraved, not jus painted. They are though blacked to stand out. Of course, it's not an Albion, and the grind of the blade is identical to Marto's, but far from Jodi Samsom's work. But for less than 1/10 of the price of the Albion, it's the best Atlantean I (and most people) can get. Hope to upload pictures soon. Regards, Alexander.

I held one of each of these when I visited the shop recently. Sadly, I didn't see Valeria's sword at the time. My thought on these, they are at best a S.L.O. and far heavier than needed. The blade is too short, the balance is like a crowbar. but they would have use if oyu could find walnuts the size of coconuts. It would be fun as a nut-hammer (for the record, I am a HUGE Conan fan, and still kick myself for passing on the original sword I had a shot at when younger, it went for 175.00 at auction)

SirThorfin, I beg to disagree: a S.L.O. is, as the name states, an object that resembles a sword. The Windlass Atlantean is a true sword, made of tempered carbon steel and full-tang. Of course it's not functional becuse of it's weight, but neither is the Albion. For those who were lucky and wealthy enough to buy an Albion, my congratulations. As I am neither one, I had to settle with the best possible, and it's the Windlass. I don't have any relationship with MRL, Atlanta Cutlery, KoA or anybody else, I'm just a very satisfied Conan fan. My first Atlanten was a chinese S.L.O., and it was a piece of junk. When I saw this review on SBG, www.sword-buyers-guide.com/Museu ... ited7.html I knew I had to own one of these. I sold my chinese crap immediately, and waited a long, long year (it was backordered) to put my hands on the Windlass. Regards, Alex.

I think we all need to agree that some folks will enjoy the Windlass version and some will not. No need to keep going on about it. It is not a SLO and is a fantasy sword that is functional to cut light targets. It is not a sword you would take into battle. We all get it.

Well I stand corrected then It's possible what I held at MRL was an older one, but as pretty as it was, it just felt wrong to me. Now if you like it, *awesome* I figure it's like listening to my wife talk shoes. The arguments are heated, but it always comes down to 'but do you like them"? I just hope they improved the inner tang so there are no unplanned moments of sword flinging. Now planned is another thing altogether....

If they improve that tang you can count me in for one. While I love the Albion version, and really you have to see it in person to fully appreciate it, I could never really justify to myself spending that much on what is still no matter how well it can cut, a wall hanger. That is of course just my opinion. I think if they listen to some customer feedback and work out the bugs they can really have a winner for fans that either have shallow pockets or their criteria just doesn't fit a Conan sword for $3000+.

Well, I haven't got the guts to take mine apart, and I don't think I will in the near future, but I can assure you the pommel now is very well fixed. The tang is probably the same, full but ending on a threaded rod where the handle is fixed with a nut. But the twine on the handle is very tight. I also have the Father's, but as the Marto version, it's very different from the movie's and the Albion's... I say if you want an Atlantean, get it before it's on backorder again. From my talk with Lori from MRL, they do these beauties in batches of 100 to 200 more or less... and it can take months to arrive. Regards, Alex.
