I've seen those too. The prices are cheap, but scroll down to see the shipping prices.

Thanks for shedding a little light in the fog of ebay. I was just confused about them. They are cheep! and a few look like WWII era swords, that as you know arnt the best quality swords, but hold a little history. Thats the main reason i was looking at them in the first place.

Yes, many gunto were machine made, and not the best quality, but thise ARE NOT gunto. Nowhere Close. As stated they are improperly forged ,non heat treated, non homogenized counterfiets to fool people(westerners) Real gunto look much better and even an example in poor repair goes for about $500. Here is a great kai gunto, in 5 days the prive will most likely triple from the $1500 cgi.ebay.com/MINT-WW2-JAPANESE-NAVAL-SAMURAI-SWORD-KAI-GUNTO-WWII_W0QQitemZ180069785835QQihZ008QQcategoryZ4080QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Here is a shingunto in disrepair...note the price. Also, even in it's state one can look at the crisp lines of the shinogi, and the fukura of the kissaki, and tell it is authentic. cgi.ebay.com/RARE-WW2-JAPANESE-LATE-WAR-SHIN-GUNTO-SWORD-WWII_W0QQitemZ180069513275QQihZ008QQcategoryZ4080QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Compare to the lines on the fake from the Chinese theifs...These swords carry NO history, the were made in an hour last week, and more time was spent to make them look old than was spent in their manufacture. Please buy nothing from these frauds.

Yea, that site has some really really beautiful weapons on there. A bit on the expinsive side, but very much worth the time, effort, and cash you will put into them. Thanks for the info on fakes, i figured the ebay ones where, but i wasnt sure. What about my orignal question... the PPK or Cheness 9260 30'' Katana?

Hello there, the 30" Cheness katana uses the shura tsuba which is very simple but quite nicely finished.I own a shura katana with standard 28" blade and would recommend it highly,it cuts like a dream and feels great, not sure about the extra weight of the 30" blade but it will definately cut easier.I have performed many hours of tameshigiri with mine and it is still as sharp as the day i got it,dont think you can go wrong with the 9260 steel, good luck.

I have a 2006 PPk with the cotton sageo. It has a slightly heavy blade but for my particular long arm length it feels a goog centre of balance. The new blade is a wee bit wider than the 2nd gen PPK blade but still has the sme old dodgy etched hamon ! Can't speak for the Cheness blade but would be good if you had v.v long arms !!

The distance from the tsuba to the end of the tsuka, should match the distance from your elbow to the end of a clenched fist. Also with sword in hand the tip should idealically not be dragging on the ground( for obvious reasons). Such long blades were in japanese history restricted to battle senarios(i.e. On horseback) or for tall samurai. Apparently Yamabushi ( for want of a better word ) were signatured with them as well.

These measurements are just a standard. Miyamoto Musashi ,legend has it, was a large man with long arms who prefered a 15" handle on his sword/ bokken. If a much smaller man was to try and weild the same sword he would have much difficulty. Do you see what I'm getting at ? Why not try the Oniyuri www.chenessinc.com/9260oniyuri.htmIts 9260 so it will take a beating. We used a similar length blade in Togakure ryu, but I found it had a strange balance to it. It was alright for ONE quick cut , but after that if you missed with that ONE cut, the longer sword would cut you up !

I think I'm going to have to test swinging on some different lengths to see which FEELS better i guess. If i recall... the really long tuska feels strange while in mid swing. But i haven't swung one with a tuska longer than around 11-12" (i have some crappy non-usable, unsharpened display pieces with all different length tuska) If i was at home i could take one down and try them out, but I'm off shore until tomorrow evening (been out here for three weeks).
