I hear you, Saito, I was never a leaf blade fan either, but the Tac Leafie caught my eye and I'm so glad that I picked one up. It is one serious blade.

Does anyone know when the new style became available?

Hey Sweet, Gus re-launched his tactical lineup earlier this year and made changes to all of the models offered, with the exception of the Tac Kat 2. I actually think that the ricasso on the older Leafie would be handy, but I do like the way that the new version looks with the flared blade base. The new one also has thicker guard lugs, and mine has a POB of 3.5" naked. Where does yours balance out, Sweet?

4.5 taken from the center of where the guard is at. Your lugs are thicker than 1/4" ? Are these new tac leafs .36 thickness like the AT1403 I have?

Sorry, I meant thicker in terms of profile. The new version is cut straight across the top making more of a triangular lug, while it looks like the original is cut in deeper, parallel to the bottom of the guard lug. Here's a pic of mine without any slabs: Attachments:

Finally got my 1st draft scales to a finished stage that I'm happy with. I thinned them out some, worked with the contours, and shaped the guard up before hitting it with a few coats of boiled linseed oil. The grips turned out a little too slippery after that, so I decided to add some traction by filing grooves along the sides and inner contours, then another coat of linseed oil. It turned out to be a really good, non-abrasive gripping surface, feels great in hand. Ready for some water bottles now!

That looks fantastic! Great work, SteelHound, very good eye and a steady hand.

Thanks Bill! I started out filing the grooves freehand, but when a few of them didn't look so good I laid the rest out in pencil. It's amazing how much a little planning helps.

Thanks Sweet, I did a lot of experimenting with these scales and learned a lot towards the next set I'm gonna make. But if Z Day happened tomorrow, I'd be perfectly fine with taking this 'as is' into battle with the undead.
