I had the oportunity to handle one of the small green stone clubs when in NZ. The edges had a bevel on them so it was almost a cutting tool, with the weight in it (I watched get made over a period of 2 weeks from a BIG lump of greenstone) it would be a nasty peice of work. I beleive its in the Aukland museum now as it was a commissioned replica peice. (my ex-brother-in-law is a greenstone carver of some renown, he also did the pendants given to the CHOGUM meeting members there in the 90's as well) BTW Sandman... Bonking has a whole different meaning in Aus Gotta love that Greenstone mate, I have a few pendents made from it and the odd tiki here and there. I have always held a fascination for semi-precious stones. We used to go panning for saphirres in our local creek, found about 15. Biggest one was fingernail sized but not totally clear. Everytime I went to India ,I came back with them in every pocket and shoe. Made a killing in the late 90's with the old Hippie shops. The mark up was astro and I could keep a few of the best for myself. Sadly nothing lasts for ever. Kashmir has been too dodgy lately.

Just as a bit of trivia, the "gaderfii/gaffi stick" clubs wielded by the Tusken Raiders in "Star Wars: A New Hope" (the 'original' Star Wars movie) were modified from actual war clubs from Fiji.
More trivia: I think it's neat how if you look at the "earlier" movies in the series, and look carefuly, you can identify the "modern" weapons or other objects the props were made from (for example, Han's blaster was a Mauser C96 'Broomhandle' pistol; the Stormtroopers' carbines were British Sterling SMG's, the Jawas' 'droid blaster' was a cut-down SMLE rifle with a grenade launcher cup, and Luke's and Vader's lightsabers were made from antique camera flash units). Look around on the 'net and you find all sorts of examples like this. Pretty cool stuff...

Here is some pics of my staff mace. overall 54" mace head 4 1/4" spike on mace 3 3/8" spear like spike 7 3/4" 4 lbs

That mace is really awesome is it still available? Sorry it took me so long to get back to you razor. Here you go; members.optusnet.com.au/~dewar_s/Tusken/Gaffi.htmI never made one but considered it as I always liked the idea of them, all you would have to do is follow the instructions and supplement the materials for more viable materials. I am still tempted to try and make on some day.
