Dude!! I have seen those Mongolian bows in magazines, etc.. Does it shoot as sweet as they say they do? Are they accurate and powerful? I saw a Scythian bow I would like to have. I also loved Legolis' bows in Lord of the Rings! FB Hey Freebooter Yeah the bow is really accurate better than my recurve. It's 52# that was the strongest bow they had when I bought it. They go up to 60#, I wish they had one when I got mine. At 52# my bow still shoots arrow out fast and the arrows go deep into targets. I seen some Scyhian bows from deferent companies and they all look like sweet bows. yeah Legolis' bow was pretty cool! The poem you wrote Freebooter is very good. Here my Mongolian bow.

Great list Freebooter. I already contacted krackow.com to see if they can make me their Bisok Longbow at 130 # at 31 inches. I am still going through the rest. Karma to you for this list.

I am glad I was of some help. They are indeed neat bows and sights. I would like to have that Legolis bow if it is as functional as they say! FB

Well i did archery many years ago, and now i know next to nothing about bows. I am looking at taking it up again and there is one of two companies with exquisite bows. I don't like the ugly modern bows i like bows made in the old style with old fashioned technology. The two companies i was talking about are these two: www.wildwoodarchery.com.au/mongol_bow.shtmlIf I buy a recurve chances are i would buy that bad boy, although vying for my attention in the bow department is this site as well www.atarchery.com.au/specifically on that site either one of their long bows or one of their recurved. As it stands i don't know about measurements and whatnot and don't have the cash to pay my rent half the time so this is a long term dream.

I use a recurve and hunting compound bow, along with Buckeye razor tipped arrows and dowel/Copper tipped training arrows. I usually get in a few hours a fortnight, and have been doing it for about a year now.

Let's not forget Pawn Shops y'all! A few months ago I was in a Pawn Shop in Montgomery, Al, and above the door was two or three old bows. One was an old Ben Pearson 50# recurve. It was nice and they only wanted $50.00 for it. I wish I had've gotten it now. I wonder if it is still there. I might have to go check on that. Take care, FB

I am a traditional archer as well. I have seven or eight recurves in the 40 -55 pound range and one compound 70 lb. My eleven year old daughter also enjoys shooting and we shoot together several time a week after I get home from work. She will be with me at the Atlanta Blade show this weekend. I'll have to post a picture of the bow rack I made with the left over scraps from the spear rack I just made.

I just rest my staff and spear like weapons in the corner of my bedroom much to my wife's dislike. Please mate , all pictures are appreciated .

Yep, my three long spears are leaning in two corners of my living room, but my short Zulu "Iklwa" fighting spear is resting point downwards leaning against the wall next to the head of my bed, along with my katana. My Civil War U.S. 1860 Lt Cav Sabre, attached to a Sabre belt, is standing in an upright stand in the same vicinity. FB

Here is the bow rack I made with the leftovers from my spear rack. The wood for both projects was $80 at Lowes. I used poplar. I’ve already outgrown this bow rack and need one twice the size. Sorry for the cramped pics. The rack is in my closet and I could get far enough back to capture the whole rack in the frame. Click on the thumbnails for a larger picture

Gasp! dishdoc, you don't use wood shafts! ANd you call yourself a traditional archer... ;D Just giving ya a hard time. I've taken to using Gold Tip carbon-graphite shafts exclusively over the last few years. They may not be "historical" or "traditional", but it's really nice to have shafts that don't warp or snap every time you flub a shot. A nice collection o' recurves there.

Hey Kriegschert, I use traditional bows, but I use aluminum arrows. In Byron Fergason's book, "Become the Arrow", he uses a longbow but has switched to aluminum arrows. He said that wood arrows are not as consistant a far as spine and strength goes as aluminum arrows. He goes around the country, on TV, etc, and even travels the world doing expositions, trick shooting, etc, much the same as Howard Hill did in his day. And Byron is from Alabama also. FB
