Yep, that was me. But Tinker did it first. He made a bang up good sword out of it, with about a 35" blade and 8" grip with all new hilt components. I wonder that happened to that sword? I seem to recall he sold it to an SFI Forumite? In any case, the blade can make a really nice sword.

I was unaware of Tinker having done one. I'll try looking through SFI today, but searching "Tinker Hanwei Bastard" is going to bring up a whole messton of the H/T line swords. You still have yours? It's nice to hear that the blade responds well to the modification.

Please share your findings if you manage to dig it up.

I still have two of them. The original that has the hollow pommel of the first generation (which Tinker worked over) was shortened and the hollow pommel filled with JB Weld. Then it was reassembled with the intact original grip. A second version was sent to me by Blake Pogue at Hanwei to disassemble and show that Hanwei had actually corrected the problem. Unfortunately for that sword, but good for everyone else, the grip was very well attached and had to be destroyed in removal. The bare blade, pommel and guard are sitting on my work bench along with the scabbard. I really need to shorten the blade and grip, and reassemble it with a new handle. Alas, so many unfinished projects and so little time and energy to finish many of them.

Went through 338 topics all the way back to 2003 but couldn't find the thread in question. I'll try some different keywords in a bit and see what I can dig up. Mike, yeah the JB weld one is the one I recall you doing. Glad Hanwei got that hollow pommel fixed, I'm sure it improves the balance of the sword nicely. Make sure you post a topic if/when you get that other one finished, I'd love to see it.
