You should take it apart at least once before you cut anything. If the Tsuka is cracked the sword is downright dangerous to use. Take it apart and inspect everything.

Agreed. Don't take it apart needlessly(do as I say, not as I do,) but it is wise to inspect the tsuka core and nakago when you first get it. If you have a(or access to tools to make,) a tsuka removal tool, use that.

I agree, I'm always scared that my nakago might have broken off and got re welded on or something scary like that, and if I swing it the blades gonna break off and go sailing into the neighbors yard.
