Hey friends. This thread is to show off my first commission, an amalgamation of designs created by fellow forumite Bloodwraith. (BW said I could lift the lid) ;D. This is Bloodwraiths Baby. And I must say it's some tasty stuff. It feels real good to hold, and has some weight behind the impact zone. She's an axe. The butt is extended for striking moves. Awesome. I really like it and get to play with it till BW's funds clear. BTW its not finished, its just been carved and belt sanded. That funny looking bit by the grip end of the edge is just coz its been sanded in the opposit direction, due to the cutout. Heat treating soon. I'm sure B dub will write us a review when (if, mmm) he gets his hand on it. BW is going to make the scales, now you know why he's been desperate to get some dead sexy wood (Purple heart or Zebra). So yeah, I am open for business, and FB are the initials of my rebranded business. I won't tell you what it stands for until I have it registered, as I don't know who might read this, and I want to keep this name. So if anyone wants a blade made, I'm not super cheap, but reasonable. PM me with your designs and I'll tell you if my skills will make it metal for you. Personalised blade design will be my speciality, along with wire wrapped & risered hilts, blueing, and whatever other component customising I can offer you. Obviously being in Australia makes the shipping costlier too, sorry. There is some stuff I can't do, due to lack of machinery, and a flat bar stock limit of 70mm wide, but I have a service to offer. Bring it baby!

So you renamed your enterprise? Who won the design a Brenno Blade competition, by the way?
Are you going to do this as a sort of part time business? I think you should. There's nothing like a hobby that supplements your living.

Yeah this is my own design, I have been studying falcata and khukuri and yatagan (three of my favourite blades) so I decided that if the price was right I would get it knocked up, Bren's price was right and a damn good price I might add for a custom monster. The design incorporates elements of all three weapons with a breaker on the end because this is a multipurpose hmm should we call it a machete Bren?

That's a really interesting design, BW. It reminds me of an early custom made Al Mar a friend of mine had...only bigger and beefier. Me like VERY MUCH! Great work Brenno. Another "instant classic" from Brenno Bladez. I can hardly wait to see it finished. BTW, how are you going to attach the scales? It looks like bolsters by the number and placement of the holes. Have you considered using hex head screws and "shouldered tubular" nuts? That would allow for three sets of scales. This would be awesome with a set of fancy wood and a set of G-10 for rough use. And a third set of fancy horn, ivory or stag for presentation grade occasions. Just a rambling thought...

Shoots: Uh dude, I didn't understand most of what you said about nutses and hexes, care to fill me in? I will probably only use one lot of scales as I want to make a hard sheath for it and aussie hardwoods wear hard so no need for more than one, especially if I glass finish Thanks for the thoughts though, this is just the first of many knives to come I think, I have too many ideas I want to see realised like my syringe dagger.

Here she is all finished up. Blued blade as per BWs request. Theres some minor testing going on here, not anything she could stand a chance at failing mind you. This thing is an axe! It warped during heat treating as they often do, and did she take some sledge hammer love to get straight! Very tough. Note the makers mark on the striker; In Runes of the Elder Futhark FB : FABLE BLADES!Normalising: Hammer Test: Chop Test: Stabing?:

Brenno: Whoa! Love the hammer test, that is hotness, It will be able to break a window or bones if necessary. This knife is the flagship of your company hey? The first one you've made under the fable label. The pictures you sent me the other night didn't do her justice, I can't wait to get this thing in real life. Turns out I can also import any of the woods I have been looking at so now the hard choice of what I want and whether I want to go with a two tone handle and scabbard. There are so many amazing woods out there that it is hard to choose. Ah well some of us have such serious decisions to make ;D

I found a guy on ebay who does stabilized wood so I am considering some curly koa or movingui but I am still working on it. I will have more money for you soon bren, just need to pay my rent first

Brenno: The first link is to a site that only ships in the states and you would have to get it sent over but I found out that it is legal to import without any issues with customs; www.woodworkerssource.net/ goto the shop online section and that will take you to the site. The other site is an ebay site; tiny.cc/q8zkMJust don't steal my wood

Some new pics. This is about Blueing: Originally I used the G96 blueing paste, which made my G2 nice and shiny and black, but strangely formed a matte, paint like, black, coating on the XK9258S, that wouldn't wash off, and continued to rust the steel. I had to polish it back (with serious elbow grease), leaving the grey patina that you see in some of the above photos. I wasn't happy to leave it like that, so I bought some Perma Blue which they only had in liquid. That had the desired effect. Giving me a shiny gun metal finish which washed back nicely, and I now have coated in oil. The only problem being that the liquid beaded a bit giving a slightly stippled finish, but it's not too noticable. I think the Perma Blue paste would be worth a try. Plenty of it on ebay for US residents. Updated pics with the new blue:

Brenno what is this "Fable" nonsense? I think BrennoBladez is the coolest name ever! Very personal, yet it flows very nicely. Who made this blade? Brenno did, and don't you forget it! BrennoBladez FTW! Just my opinion, though.

Well my blade design isn't out of a fable that is for damn sure, or if it is it is out of the R rated fables of aesop used by the fox to gut the rabbit and all his little rabbit friends. I liked brennobladez as well but I understand that you want a more useable title for your business, Fable Blades is an awesome business name and I can't wait to see what other madness you come up with.

As a general rule anytime you go into business you should choose a business name that does not include your own name, unless you are a Doctor or Lawyer.
As an example, anyone named brent, bryan, brendan or brett could use the name "brennoblades" or bren-no blades" or even "brenno bladz", be perfectly legal in doing so and cash in on/completely ruin Brenno's reputation.
Listen to the voice of experience, or prepare to suffer the pain of repeating history.
