Shoots: Great vids and great cutting as always but what the heck happened with the baron? Are you just not used to that sword or what?

I'd like to take this opportunity to echo the consensus on the Baron. That's been one of my favorite Albions to stare at for hours on end...I mean uh...study while considering purchasing...or something. *cough* So what happened there? Just not used to it, or just not a good sword for tatami? Have you done any further cutting with it? Am I missing it in the cutting section?

FIRSTLY!!! It's early spring here and this was the first day I was able to wear shorts in 9 months... And they were out of that "spray-on-tan-stuff" at the local stores. Ramm, those shorts come almost to my knees, they just ride up when I move around. Fashion police pimp! Yeah, the Baron was quite disappointing. I think it was partly to do with the edge not being real sharp. But if you look closely, the two strikes with the Baron made contact at about 4-6 inches from the blade tip. I discussed this with Gus Trim, and his guess was that the Baron may not be harmonically balanced. When you strike far away from the CoP with a sword that isn't harmonically balanced, the vibrations cause a lot more resistance during the initial part of the cut. This works to drastically slow the blade through he target. I suspect this may be at play here, but haven't test the Baron yet.

Sounds like a reasonable theory, but I'd have expected better from Albion. One would think they've got all the good ol' mechanics down. Oh well, sharpen it up and try again sometime. I'll be anxiously awaiting the next video.

My Poitiers came plenty sharp from Albion. Some blades just cut better thn others imo. Your Ulfberht cuts great looks like, Mike.
