Thanks to everyone for your replies. Your input is greatly appreciated! It looks like there are definitely some options here. I was wondering about an exchange, but I don't know how they would feel about the fact that I've got a layer of Ren Wax on it. I'm not sure now whether or not to worry about the basket crack, or not. It's certainly very small, and, like I said, not all the way through, so maybe not as big a deal as I thought. And no, it is not a factory second. There were some of those in the catalog but I was careful to make sure this one wasn't. Thanks, Brenno, for the details on the JB Weld/loctite. I've heard both of those mentioned before, so they must be popular. In any case, I'm not sure what to do, here. And you know, I don't want this to be a total bash toward Cold Steel, even though I've got quite a few complaints, here. It's possible I was just unlucky in this particular sword, at least as far as the crack goes. I bet they all have that silly short tang, though. Grrrr. Kristie If this is not factory second you should request an exchange , Ren wax or not (what is ren wax any way ?) . This is going to sound strange but I think that why I like the factory second stuff because some body at the factory actually look at the product and find some thing wrong with it and pull it out of the line . I have to tell you after reading your review now I want one of this basket hilt sword now. I will have to watch Rob Roy in the mean time until I get the money to buy one

Kristie, thanks for the review. I just posted in another thread that I didn't have a Cold Steel sword, yet. Still might be a while from the looks of it. It's good to have this access to others experiences to help make more informed choices. Sorry some of us have to bite the bullet to find out in the first place. Still first class job by you, karma for your troubles.
Thana, ren wax or Renaissance Wax, is made from refined waxes blended to a formula used by the British Museum and restoration specialists internationally to revive and protect valuable cutlery, furniture, coins, leather, paintings, woods, metals, marble ivory etc. Renaissance Wax freshens colors and imparts a protective soft sheen. ;D

Ugh, and I thought Cold Steel made a sturdier sword. You're one of the lucky ones. I have a friend who recently purchased a rapier with the same problem(I think), but he turned it into a flying helicopter of doom. That's what you get from buying from ebay. Anyways nice review. Karma 4 u.

Just an update on this: I contacted Cold Steel and they have instructed me to send it back. Looks like a refund will be no problem. Now maybe I can use the money for a new sword to review! Stay tuned...

Thanks for the review. I have been looking around at different basket hilted swords. I guess this is not the one for me.
