militarytimes.com/blogs/gearscou ... nife-line/ forums.equipped.org/ubbthreads.p ... ber=215360 (scroll down a bit on this one) I really didn't expect seeing that kind of knife, especially not from Ka Bar ... So, they are about to release a line of knives with bright-green handles considered as zombie-killing blades. One folder and about five fixed-blades. I personnaly like most of these knives. I am not sure how useful they will be (probably not much more than most other medium/large-sized knives on the market), but they look like fun blades to collect. Plus, it's fun to see a big knife company that's willing to try selling something humoros and cool like these knives Thoughts ?

Ka -bar was locked into pretty much the same mold for a very long time. You'r right, it's good to see them branch out. The ergonomics of this line are rather extreme in some ways, but, if one looks at the cutting with sword technique of hand in front of target, then they could be very interesting. I look foreward to handling them myself or reading reviews of those who have. Thanks for the heads up Sebastien.

I agree that it is good to see a serious and mainly traditionnal company branch out with something fresh and interesting.
I actually kind of like these knives. Special desings, and I find the green handles funky in these pictures, but they might bother me in real life, I'll have to wait to get my hands on one.
Can't wait to learn more about these, thanks for sharing!

I think it's great that they're packaging extra black grips that you can swap out the green ones with. Awesome idea. Can see a lot of people not really digging the bright green. I don't think I would either. Though you are right, Sebastien. They would be hard to lose. Shame that the article/page that you linked to seems to be the only place to see any pics of it (I've looked a bit on google to try and find more pics, but every result seems to only consist of someone posting that link, lol). Kind of hard figuring out the names of the ones that aren't either the folder or the skeleton knife, and they don't seem to have the ZK's listed on the ka-bar website yet. Then again, the SHOT show did just start a few days ago. ...Kinda wish I could just teleport myself over there or something. Would be pretty awesome to see all those new knives and guns and whatnot from all those different companies in person, and maybe even meet James Williams in the flesh.

only see one problem Seb is my hand sliding up onto the blade so I would have to grip it like my CS Spikes.
I love kabars fixed big baddies, but have always detested their folders.

I agree with you Ghost, that folder doesn't look very thrust friendly without a very, very firm grip.
BTW if you check out the picture in the second link, you can see the names of the blades, their lenghts and their prices (manufacturer's prices, probably).
Edit :
At the top, from left to right, there's the Kharon tanto folder and the Acheron skeleton knife. After that, from top to bottom ; Famine tanto, War sword, Pestilence chopper and Death dagger.

I was about to come post this, but you beat me too it! I actually really like the war sword and death dagger. I love seeing a major company try something like this, even if it's just for sh*ts and giggles. Also the MSRP on these seem pretty reasonable, so I just might have to pick a few of these up.

I guess I'm the only one that thinks they look really cheap and nasty then? I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole, but each to their own.

Bloodwraith we each have a unique style and specialty....mine just happens to be cheap and nasty. Thanks for recognizing it.
Also any folder or fixed blade with a guard will not be thrust friendly...you have grip the the back and wrap/tuck your pinky...and even then you might get a nick...but that is far better than a stab.

I have a feeling that that is mostly the green handles, and they all come with black handles that you can swap out. I just like the blade profiles, and I know KA-BAR makes pretty reliable low-cost knives. What can I say? I'm a KA-BAR fan, and I love zombie killing. It's kind of a win win for me. And like I said, if the green bothers me a ton in person, I can always just throw on the black scales. Though I kind of like it in the pictures, and like some of the others said, you'd certainly never lose it. Lol.
On the subject of thrusting, the only one without a deep finger choil and a thumb ramp is the folder, the others I think would be fine for thrusting. As good as something with a guard? of course not, but I certainly wouldn't hesitate to bury those through a zombie's temple, or up under his chin. Also, look at this realistically, these are really just interesting bushcrafting knives with a bit of flair, and guards get in the way a bit when you're doing wood work and shelter build, etc. They'll probably sell better overall as they are, then if they had guards. Just saying.

Looking at the MSRP, I'm guessing the big ones will retail for about 50 and the folder for probably 25. So for about 250 you'd be able to get the whole set! Not bad, considering you could spend that much or more on one sword(I know, not really comparable, but still).

*Whispers* Do it... Do it...
Seriously though, I'm thinking about getting one myself, probably the War sword. I actually kinda like the green handles... makes it unique.

Last time I checked (earlier today), they weren't sold anywhere, even in pre-order.

They were just announced at SHOT Show. I don't believe they're into production yet. I would guess they will be out by summer, judging by how long most of the knife makers took after 2010 SHOT to get the stuff out to retail.

Thanks. I am unfamiliar with SHOT but now I get it. I liked the Pestilence and the green handles. I think with a good paracord wrap of the right color with a little of that green peaking trough it would be very cool.
I have a very close friend who is now a Navy Officer, but was first UMSC. We used to play D&D and camp alot. So a cool Ka Bar would be a nice gift.
