Last time i flew was 5 years ago, but I went both ways with a sword in a cardboard box and bubble wrap.No hassle the first time, other than the metal detector picking up the steel bar inside my shinbone and the staple at the bottom of my wallet.Second trip, i had to open the box and put my boots and coat in it due to the bag they were in being a few pounds over weight. got the paper saying it was searched and some neat homeland security tape on the box to reseal it.

I have to agree that the better option is to ship it to youself or a family member. Time the shipping so you'll be home before the sword is

I only read the topic, but all I could think is, "That's a HORRIBLE idea!" For whatever it's worth.

Well, all those fancy swords I saw on previous trips in Vietnam were just wooden replicas! The government there totally bans ALL weapons. I guess they are paranoid about an uprising. So, I will wait until I go to Cambodia next time and check out that forge. Thanks all and I will keep you posted.

Eh doesn't have to keep the sword in a locked gun case for you to travel with it in an airplane?
