Well for everyone wondering about the gladius, I plan to be picking one up as soon as they're available at normal retailers. Not sure what good my opinion would do it on, seeing as I've never handled a normal gladius. Perhaps just being able to tell you it won't fly apart would be good enough for some of you to bite the bullet. Lol.
I also have to say, that for a machete, the cold steel ones actually have fairly robust blade. They don't flex very much, and they can take a lot of abuse. Mine has been used to rip apart old hardwood furniture, and hit a few nails in the process. Pretty decent dings in the cutting edge, but no chips. All I've ever done is give it a quick run with a diamond rod, and I can still get still cuts(silent cuts) on normal water bottles.
I guess what I'm saying is that, whether this thing is going to handle like a proper gladius I don't know, but I'm certain it will be a great backyard cutter.
