Hey chrisperoni, this might be answered in the etching tutorial but I haven't checked yet: Do you know if this method works on brass or bronze or is it strictly steel?

Tried it on brass and it worked- the etched design was sort of pale orange coloured

That makes me extremely tempted to cast my suontaka hilt furniture plain and etch designs in rather than carving the wax and casting them that way. Any thoughts?

you will get cleaner results from carving and casting. The edges of etched lines are always a little wavy. There is a way around the problem, I need to find you a link to the product I used...and for the best result, do one each way. Then pick the best.

I agree with Thornfinn- carved and cast will yield far better, more detailed results. It will look much better.
