Just flattening the sides of the handle would improve it dramatically from a comfort perspective. I usually don't like to use power tools, as one slip can do all sorts of damage to the component in question as well as surrounding components. Go to your local hardware store (or shop online) and get a couple wood rasps (files made for wood [flat ones would probably be best]) and a few grits of sandpaper (60, 100, 220, and 320 should work) and try it that way. Yeah I would probably go with what you say, kriegschwert, as I am not mechanically inclined. I just thought Chris did a good job on his Celtic.
