i have been considering a custom jin shi based upon specs of rodell cutter with fancy guard and pommel.

I have a Qi and I LOVE it. It is a great sword. It is perfectly good for cutting. Hanwei says that to avoid liability. The Qi is drop forged, so it is the epitome of full tang (the handle is a part of the blade), if that can't cut, I don't know what can. It comes fairly dull, I sent mine to RicWilly to get it sharpened (he offered to try out the then new idea of the belt sander on it, it came out nicely). I love the way it handles, which is very, very hilt heavy, balance point is right about the top of the "habaki" for lack of a better word. The scabbard is gorgeous as well. I have played with every CAS Hanwei Chinese Blade and I bought this one, so that should tell you something.

this is a copy of email from hanwei regarding qi jian. i find it safe to believe that it is TH. what i dont like is that hanwei insists on always putting that disclaimer for cutting on their jian. personally, if i get one i will try it out and let you know. they do make some tough blades. the rodell model jian, the cas agincourt, the practical tai chi, and the replacement blade H/T bastard sword i have and they are all tough blades. tho the practical tai chi is rather more flexible than i prefer.
