Sorry for the necromantic reply to an apparently deleted post by a long gone poster! It's just... well, somebody's wrong on the internet and I can't stand that. That's just an illusion created by the shadow of the guard. The text explicitly states that "the fuller continues for about 2.0cm along the broad, hefty tang", and you can clearly see as much in the close-up shot of the hilt on the facing page. But only on the modern reproductions! They're not very accurate, and seem to focus entirely on the hilt, besides; if you look more closely at the badly corroded originals displayed next to them, you can see that their fullers are a fair bit wider and do indeed go all the way up to and under the guard.

I am on the hunt for one of these. Funny this would resurface now!
I will take this as a good omen.

You should know that this sword has a nice pattern indeed, but the blade is really a "sharpened crowbar". Totally overbuilt, I think Hanwei fears a thinner pattern welded blade could brake and wants to be on the save side. Also it's grinded or milled a bit too "perfect", esp. the fuller and the tip. I filed down the tip section to a thinner and rounded spatular tip like a real sword of this time had. And I tried to make the whole blade thinner but for this a big beltsander is needed which I don't have.

XXXL too, haha! I can swing it, but it's too sluggish for any kind of fight. Anybody with a real viking sword would rip you to shreds.

Not too concerned, I don't plan on getting into any swordfights soon. I suppose if I did have to use a sword, I would use my ATrim XVIa.3. It is hanging on the wall near the bedroom door. Or just use the .357 in my bedside table.
Choices....

I had one once but passed it along. Nice in presentation but too heavy and clunky.

If you can find one the secondary market, they are not cheap. The price on those went up a good bit before they discontinued them.
