Sorry, can't help you woth the pics. Getting ready to leave town and just don't have time to disassemble a sword...got to oil them all well...
The nakago is a basic chinatana nakago...no file marks , kinda round edged , no mei.
I've provided several direct links to sellers, go back in the thread and check again...
There are no sellers in the UK.

great sword. not being one for katanas, I'm finding myself wanting one of these...if only for the price tag! I guess I'll have to find some way to afford this.

I take it you like it then! ;D Please share your overall impressions with it... likes/dislikes. Well, pros would be: nice, tight hilt (no rattles), tight and even ito, well-done edge (and very sharp too), reasonably nice looking pseudo hamon (thank God they didn't do the "sawtooth" pattern ;D), and a very light and quick feel. Cons: though well executed, the ito has that "shoelace" look so common to low end swords (this doesn't bother me a whole lot, but it's worth mentioning for those who may be more concerned with it), saya fit is a bit dodgy (sometimes feels tight, other times loose, though I'm not sure how that's possible ;D), and the blade (especially kissaki) could be refined a bit more as far as polish goes. Really, those are the only things I've noticed, so far, and completely acceptable in a sword that sells for $75 shipped.

Hi Marc!
Glad to hear that your original Bamboo is still hanging in there. It was your initial review, as you well know, that resulted in me getting one. I have been through two now (gifted that first one out to a buddy), and I have been pleased with both.
Take care, and I look forward to more cool sword-reviews from you in the future!
Peace, Mike

Hi Guys,
Let me tell you something. As a store owner, I have been searching for this "Masahiro" Bamboo katana forever. I know they are hard to find, they are reasonably priced, and they are generally good swords. I deal with Masahiro directly. I carry nearly the full line of their products and when I asked them about this product they said: "We do not make that". I scoured the net looking for the manufacturer of this item to no avail. One day a tenacious customer of mine was chatting with me and said "I know where they come from". JL Swords is the maker. They are a manufacturer of swords in China, but they are not the makers of Masahiro swords. I thank you very much for your review as I was wondering if they are still making them in good quality. (Apparrently you can get them made however you like) I am in negotiations now and hope to be able to supply these to fans everywhere in a month or so.

That is interesting because the storage tubes they come in are definitely Masahiros'. By chance would you have the manufacturers' (JL Swords) model number on this sword? Thanks Sol

[ That is interesting because the storage tubes they come in are definitely Masahiros'. I suppose the manufacturer might have bought the tubes at a discount to store the swords in instead of having storage containers specifically made for for them. By chance would you have the manufacturers' (JL Swords) model number on this sword? Thanks Sol The plot thickens... Here's a photo of the tubes mine came in (definitely Masahiro): Here's a shot of one of the end caps (hard to read in the pic, but has Masahiro name and logo embossed in plastic): And here's the kicker (the little sticker on both tubes that clearly reads JL815...

Alright Kriegschwert! Karma to you.
I've been looking for the Masahiro Bamboo (now a JL Swords JL-815) model number for a long time. Can't believe I overlooked that... DUH.
It may also explain why the Masahiro Bamboo is a much better sword than the other swords in the masahiro line up - it's not a Masahiro it's a JL Sword.

I just did a google search: JL-815 sword and got three links. the two ebay sellers eBay razorsharpkatana #228 (their number for the Masahiro Bamboo) eBay handmadesword #K73 (their number for the Masahiro Bamboo) and www.jlsword.com which shows the Masahiro Bamboo, though it gives number JL-813 (Jl-815 shows a different sword, maybe they mixed the numbers and pictures?) I've seen the JL Swords Bushido Dragon Katana (JL-808) selling for $170.00 to $200.00. I think forum member Freebooter has one.
Wonder how it compares to the JL-815 (Masahiro Bamboo).

You gave me false hope there, Sol. ;D I thought razorsharpkatana was selling them again. That's who I bought both of mine from. I wonder what the whole Masahiro shipping tube was all about? I don't care who made them, I'm just wondering. Maybe they had some extra Masahiro tubes laying around?

If either one starts selling the #K73 or #228 I will be notified by e-mail. Of course if that happens I will let everyone know. Sol

Some great sleuthing guys..! I had looked to for a while to see who REALLY made the Bamboo and came up with nothing. (Nothing wrong with Masahiro per se, but I didn't think it was made by them...) I'll have to amend the info on the Bamboo on SBG shortly. There doesn't seem to be any on ebay at the moment so Jason could be onto a good thing here..! ;D - Paul
