Yes, I'm working on yet another Fable blade project with Brendan, lol. Anyways I'm wanting to have a custom box made for this piece as it's going to be presented as a gift to my best friend. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good source to make a custom box? I want it to be lockable (preferably with a hidden old-style lock inside the box and the keyhole being in the wood so that when the box is closed it doesn't have latches or the like on the outside marring up the pretty wood. Also I will probably want some sort of carving/inlay on the top.
At any rate, anyone know a good place or person? preferably someone with pictures of their previous work I could look at?

What length of box do you require? If you give the dimensions I may have one that you can modify yourself to suit your needs!

Wait... when did you get the money for another Fable Blade? ...You gonna tell us anything, or is it under wraps? On topic... I have no clue. Maybe you could make one yourself!

I have this credit card... for emergency purchases >.>
edit: Also I'm not confident in my woodworking skills to make something that will look nice and last, especially with the lock inside. plust my tools are limited. I'm betting I'd need a router to hollow out the place inside for the lock stuff. I'd rather just have it professionally done.
edit edit: Only thing I'll say is that it's a very feminine fantasy blade designed for a petit friend of mine.

Ohhh, I like petite, feminine friends.....
As for the box, when do you need it by? I have a wood working shop, if you had a sketch or a link to the kind of hardware you want on it I could feasibly make it. Thing is I'm covered up at the moment and it wil be a while before I can start on it.

Thanks for the offer, Avery It'll be a pretty good while, actually. Months. I want to get the sword paid for, then have a scabbard made, get that paid for, and then see about getting the box. I just like to have all my ducks in a row before I actually NEED something, know what I mean? I'll do a rough sketch of what I'm thinking after I figure out exactly how I want it done lol. Would you be able to do an internal old-style lock on it? What I mean by this, is something very similar to this here: www.goantiques.com/scripts/images,id,1888177.html#image4 All you can see is the keyhole and it uses an old barrel style key.

Sure, I have the tools to do that. Let me look around at some sites I know for some hardware. I can't promise anything at the moment as far as building it, but we can still spit-ball ideas. What kind of finish are you going for, glossy, satin, antiqued or other? And cost, what are you looking to spend?

Oh, so this is for the friend that Wes was looking to buy a wallhanger for, eh? Thought she didn't want something sharp. Oh well, go get that Fable Blade made! Then I can drool all over my keyboard even more! Oh, wait, that's not a good thing.

The box I was refering to would cost you shipping only because it came with my bambo matt kat from Hanwei.Theres photos in the Bambo Matt thread-its very nice and I could ship to Avery to do the tweeking-what do you think-its big enough and gives you lots of material to work>I'd love to do the project but I got to much on the go now. After looking at the pics over there decide-the measurements are to come with better photos-tomorrow,here.

What kind of finish are you going for, glossy, satin, antiqued or other? And cost, what are you looking to spend? Antiqued would be best, also how are you at artsy-carving? I have an idea of a few carved out bits I'd like to see done to it (The keyhole on the front for example being the nose hole of a cutesy skull) and the length of the top being a carved scroll with a story written on it. A couple of notches made on either end length-wise for hand holds. The rest of the box just made to look weathered and worn. Cost-wise I'm not sure. I'd like to just get a quote for something nice and go from there. See if I felt I could afford it lol. Oh, so this is for the friend that Wes was looking to buy a wallhanger for, eh? LOL I'm surprised you remembered that. Yes, this is for that same friend and even after all this time I have yet to find a wall-hanger that I felt any sort of attachment towards or that I would feel a sense of pride in presenting it to such a great friend so I finally just decided that Brendan was more than capable of producing what I wanted to see and I got in touch with him. He was actually pretty excited, said he'd been wanting to do something like this for a while.

Lightly burn it to give it a darkened, aged look. As for carving, wheww, I could do it but I'm very slow at that. I have a dremel tool, but still prefer to do it the "old fashioned" way. I tell ya, Lunamans right; Ben Potters' work is incredible. Doubt I can compete with that level of skill. What I can do is draw up a quick detail of how the box will be built andhow the lock mechanism will work. It'll take me a little while to draw it up. You said about 37"by 8", what about the height? Also, in order to do this properly it'd be best to have the sword in hand so I can cut the cushioning to fit tightly. But we can work out the details later.

Height I'm thinking no more than 4" internal plus the thickness of the top and bottom wood. Time shouldn't be much of an issue. It'll be almost a year before I present this to her (It's a gift for a special aniversery of ours) I wouldn't dream of having you design the box without sword in hand, and if it would cut costs I can do the internal padding and foam carving myself. Also, sure. Let me get you a quick sketch of the keyhole skull that I'm imagining. My friend loves skeletons and skulls, but she also loves cute creepy things so I thought I would combine the two

Alright, I threw this together in photoshop real fast using a few ganked images from google searches. The scale is 5" x 38" (assuming .5" for each panel of wood). This isn't the finish I'm going for I'm thinking something darker like old oak or old cypress, I just tossed the woodgrain image on there for visualization.

Other stuff, I have the memory and attention-span of a fly. Really, I'm surprised I remember too. ...Wow, I wish I had a friend of the opposite sex that would buy me a sword... Anyone know any rich women I could marry? Oh, wait, that might not count as a 'friend'. Anyways, good luck on the box thing, lol. Man, the guy Luna linked to has some pretty expensive stuff.

MAN, where do FIND these awesome smiths? This guy is so good and so cool, I practically want to send him money just for being awesome! Aside from being ridiculously talented, I'm thrilled to see a Christian man do work to please God, from his heart. I don't want to get into religious stuff, just to say that it's very cool to see someone with such noble intention in our current society, which mostly seems so bleak to me. I should note that I would be thrilled no matter his religion, it is the fact that it guides and informs his work as well as his life. Apology for being off topic and if any moderator or member thinks this is inappropriate, I will delete it right away. ~wp
