Hey Kids. I was out digging in the Garden today, and happened upon an archeological type find. It appears to be the actual sword of King Peter of Narnia. Check it: Alright, you got me. This is the result of having this blade re-heat treated, and tempered. It was in need of it as it started to bend & set too easily. It's wierd because my blades I've made have not been affected like this at all. I wonder if it is because of the lacquer I have heard of being applied to windlass blades. I didn't think it actually had any on it but, and I have filed and sanded this blade before. There was some paint in the etching, I wonder if this reacted to something in the quench or what? ? It's actually really cool as I had considered doing this to this blade before, and as such I won't be sanding it out. It's just happened to be a really fast and cheap way to achieve this affect - $10 heat treat and temper. And as I said it hadn't affected either of my blades that way. The pic below shows the very different effect it had on two blades done at the same time: Now I am thinking of these mods: *going to a hemp wrap *Flaking / Picking off the Nickel plating on the cross. There is steel under that says a magnet. *Picking off the Nickel plating on the pommel and antiqueing that too. Edit Feb 08: Have Wrapped the grip in Just to give it a more antique look. Still can't figure out how to get the chrome off.

It was probably the metal coating they put on the MRL blades, it's not just lacquer. Try reforging one and you'll see and SMELL it burn off, then you will throw it away instead of dying from poison and start again on another blade from good steel.

That sounds like nasty business. Its completely rooted this blade. It seems to be well treated, but its covered in pits and lumps and its a real mess. Looks great but.

lol what is it with you and narnia? Great books in my opinion, and the movie had its strengths as well.
