Swords and football! Two of my favorite things. Really just an excuse to chop some stuff up though.

sometimes I watch football while just holding a sword- thinking of some way to combine the two- but only thinking about it between plays and replays.
May the Gods bless this time of year

To me, football is merely a part of the bread and circuses tossed our way to pacify the people like Soma tablets in Huxley's Brave New World. In fact, I avoid getting suck into watching any heavily-advertised, commercialized, and publicized competitive sport - including baseball, basketball, NASCAR, hockey, etc. The only sport that I am currently a fan of is curling. I used to go to the ice skate park and watch teams play when I lived in Minnesota. It takes some skill to slide those rocks or work those little brooms - and theres no endorsements, drama, strikes, steroids, rigged games, tabloid headlines, mafia owners, or million dollar contracts being tossed around.

I agree that professional sport is the opiate of the masses- another means of control and pacification. However, if one is aware of this then it is possible to be kept from this trap and still enjoy the sport of it. Keeping your mind vigilant and acting with purpose in life does not mean you have to shun all things that are present to distract- take want you want and leave the rest!

Is it just me, or did others expect something else from this thread?
I figured it was going to be two beefcakes in padding going at it with swords. Either that or a range of swords that had team emblems on them, or a pretend "team" made of swords with greatswords acting as blockers and nimble short swords as recievers all playing a game...
Well I have an active imagination, and no officer I havent been drinking (yet).
PS I gotta love Ninja Warrior - it's so extreme and Japanese, and no matter who you are you only get one shot at it. Odin I bet you would like it!
Cheers,
Rob

What sword were you using? Praying mantis katana from my elite line. I looked around your elite line, man I really like that Oni Katana. Wish I had $700 to blow. Hell I wish I had seven dollars to blow.

Odin I bet you would like it! Cheers, Rob I was expecting something similar, really. I half expected to see a video of American football players using swords to catch the ball and to defend against the other team. As for SASUKE (Ninja Warrior's name in Japan), now that's a sport. The obstacles there make the US army obstacle courses look like a cake walk for inebriated 2-year olds. The fact that only 3 men have ever completed it really goes to show how difficult it really is. Ah... The only thing I miss about digital cable. But, now that I think about it, I could probably find the episodes online.

Awwww c'mon, let the man retire. Honestly, I wish he made it to one more Bowel, but he's one year older than last year with more experience than 95% of the Q.B.'s out there. His mind is sharp, but let's face it he's getting too old.
I'd love to see him take Minnesota all the way through, if for anything else just to see him lead a team through again, but I think either way he's done as a Q.B.
A coach,......well thats different all together.

I could make out the axe pic. You should be glad you were outbid. The brass butt is a furniture leg end, the nails holding it on are current made furniture tacks. The grain of the wood and stain show it to be new or at the very least stripped and restained. The axe head itself is from a tourist axe. These axes were made and imported enmasse from the 60's up until about 15 years ago when then changed the design and cut them from flat stock and welded a pipe socket on, as opposed to the one pictured which is the older style and was forged or completely ground out. Originally this series of axes (at least 4 designs that I can remember off the top of my head) were mounted on a contoured wood handle with a tubular socket the was put over the handle and the heads were mounted above the metal socket and generally screwed into place with a top spike. i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn46/remlingp/Picture761-1.jpgThe two axe heads pictured were simliar to yours except I used a steel pipe for the new haft as opposed to the wood and brass on the one you bid on. Fun project but not really worth much.
