Per this thread: /index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=17659 A lot of us have stated that the sword Momoa is currently wielding in the pictures isn't the one we would have armed Conan with. . . . So, what sword *would* you arm him with? After thinking about it, I would go with this one: www.fableblades.com/Crimson%20Sleep.htmlIt's a Fable Blades design, and I picture this one as *the* 'Conan sword', followed by pretty much anything Jody Samson has made ;D . --Edward

You read my mind, Ed. The Crimson Sleep was exactly what I had in mind when I first saw mention that the Celtic Wolf should be Conan's sword. By the by, I want the CS, myself. I also think the Valkyrie would work, too: www.fableblades.com/Valkyrie.html

The original JS Atlantean and the JS Father's Sword. No others would suffice - those swords are epic heirloom items that could never be duplicated, much less bested by anything else. Except maybe by perhaps a foam LARP boffer....

The Atlantean and Father's swords both, while beautiful, seemed like the complete anti-Conan to me. They are big, bulky, heavy, slow. They fit Arnold, sure, but someone who is described to be powerful AND agile? I just don't see them fitting someone so purpose-oriented.

Brenno's Crimson Sleep, followed by Luna's designs tied with some of Brother Bonzai's offerings and Odinblade's Zweihander. The originals were great and I love Brenno's and BB's renditions of them but for a new Conan something actually functional would be best and I can't think of better than what some of the makers and designers here at SBG have come up with. We have some great sword makers here and I think they can do much better than any Hollywood props guy can do.

Once more, Liam, I agree with you on that last bit, but here's the kicker: we're the sword nuts here (and I take that as a compliment), while the Hollywood prop guys believe a sword is essentially a three foot shiny club with a sharp edge.

Hmmm . . . I'd also recommend Skofnung, and Lunaman's first drawing-- they are a little more barbarianish to me.

Absolutely right.
Too bad they can't get it together and realize that if they listen to the nuts, they'll still get a "three foot shiny club with a sharp edge"- except it'll look kick ass, we'll want to buy it, be happy to spend good money on it, and all the casual fans will still want the cheapo SLO versions and still pay up for all the rest of the subsequent merchandising crap that'll inevitably be churned out.
They need to learn to balance a unique look (which is what I think they're going for- differentiating the new sword from the old) with common sense... never gonna happen though

I don't know what you guys are smoking, but anything that isn't a sword made of chainsaws is total nonsense. Seriously though? I like the idea of him wielding an axe for big jobs like hacking through a mob of dudes like this one: And another one for little jobs like killing a guard stealthily, like a seax or kukri

The axe would be great considering I own the one in the picture, however it's extremely identified with the Death Dealer from the Frazetta drawings. BTW Brendon Somehow I missed Crimson Sleep on your website, absolutely one of my favorites now.For me I love the blade width,it's in the viking/fantasy relm and really kind of simple. The skull pommel looks great but that sword is definatly a two handed slasher.

It won't matter to me because I won't even bother to watch it. Read the script, found it lacking in anything Robert E. Howard.

If i recall correctly John Lundemo made, a year or two ago, a viking looking sword named Conan's sword. From what i can remember, it was perfect. Unfortunately, it probably was in the manufacturer's section.

Well the good thing so far is theirs still 3 pages of Jody Samson,s gallery of sold swords to look at still up on his old site, and a lot of those IMO would have worked nice for the new movie! jodysamson.com/gallery.htm
