Sorry I've been quite of late people but work is insane, run by insane people making the worst possible decisions & leaving the mess for the few to clean up. End of complaint aaaahhhr in with the love out with the hate, back to center. I've had a fun time trying to find fittings that I really like & don't see on every web site or production blade being pumped out by the masses at the moment. Sometimes I'm my own worst enermy. Thanks to ebay I have a set of Menuki on the way (don't know if I'll use them yet) that grabbed my eye & maybe due to it being my first ever ebay buy I may have gotten a little over enthused. Anyway they are cheap Stamped out units not hand made, just have to wait till they get here from the UK. Also seen a Tsuba worth considering (about $20 to $30 AUD all up inc freight) that is a cheap Chinese knock off but i figure if i don't like it I"ll have the beginning of a Tsuba collection. Once again their was something about it that grabbed my eye & although its not exactly along my original wave theme it still ties in nicely, & I just like the look of it. Well here are some pic's for you to check it out & give me some feed back hopefully, enjoy.

Seahorses, eh? Never would have thought of them as menuki. Interesting, and definitely different. Tsuba's not bad, either, but I'm not so sure about the fish.
If you like it, though, go for it.
Oh, speaking of custom tsuba etc., have you seen...well, it escapes me at the moment how to spell the starter's name, but he's exploring a company that does water jet cutting and seems reasonably priced.

Thanks Random,
yep the seahorses came out of left field to me as well but i just had to keep going back to them, guess it was a sign. If i decide to use them i may have to fill them with something (epoxy) to give them extra strength & stop them from caving in.
I've alway loved Koi & that was the nick name my grand dad gave me as a kid, so has meaning to me on a few levels.
Do you mean Paul's looking at getting a line a Tsuba's happening, cool. It would defiantly be better to have them water cut rather them laser as the heat could make them very hard to do any work on & can cause warping. I just hope it's not more of the same old same old, we really need some new variations on designs as the newer stuff is getting old fast.

Ah, well if it has special meaning to you, then I can't really say anything against it. Heck, I say that's all the more reason to go for it.
The thread I was thinking of was this one, by the way: /index.cgi?board=japaneseswords&action=display&thread=1187998316

That was my thread. A little something I am looking into. Using the water jet cutting, you could design anything you want; any size, shape, or material. I took the photo of your seahorse menuki and copied the shape into AutoCAD. Here are a few of the designs I came up with on a 3 inch round tsuba. Image quality is lost converting the CAD file to a JPEG. If you know of someone one your side of the globe that could do this, I will be glad to send the CAD file. If not, I can check into having it done here. My guess is that having just one done will cost the minimum cutting fee of $65 U.S. If would wouldn't mind two of them in the world, I could get two cut and we could split the cost. I would most likely sell the other one. That price would be in addition to the cost of the metal you choose.

Karma point to you MarK,
For going out of your way for a fellow member and for being so imaginative.
I'm not into sea horses that much but maybe some one else here would like to take you up on your genorouse offer & it is always great to see new ideas.
Once again many thanks.

I havent tired water cutting but I had a tsuba lazer cut and the fine detail was excellent. I reckon that fish tsuba would look better in all black, painted highlites never look like like the inlay they seek to copy.I recently got a couple of tsuba that are done like that and they look much better all black.(matt or satin black)
