just a mini venting session with pics. luckily nothing inside was damaged. I just don't understand how anyone with a conscience could deliver this and then walk away without so much as a second look. job well done??? okay, this can be deleted or moved if needed, I feel better now

I was only temporarily upset because my precious Waki wasn't damaged because of this. I know that the process of filing a claim is very draining and usually takes forever to be fulfilled. in this case, thankfully, I can let it go. just upsetting to witness the lack of pride in one's job first hand.

I have never-ever-recieved undamaged goods from UPS-each and every item, particularly swords(long boxes)seem to be targeted for damage! When I recieved my Torakami,I would not sign for it until I unpackaged it completely and inspected said Kat for damage. When the dude delivered it to me,he quiped-"Looks like it got ran over,eh!"Nothing like pride in a job well done.Although the look on his face when I removed the saya from the blade was almost worth it all!I hope nothing was harmed!DJ

I got a waki and a katana today Luckily and by pure coincidence, I used to take Aikido a few years back with my UPS driver, so i get really great serivce from him Glad to hear your waki wasnt hurt, was it because it was a shorter sword packed in a longer box or did they just really abuse that box?

So Frank wadda use born yesta day or somethin? It's NuuuYawk. It's da way things get done heah. Ya know wad I mean? ;D Don't let the address fool ya. I was born in Yonkers and went to college in Newark...
I agree with you that this is horrifying, but there is an overwhelmed sense of blaise in Big Apple service that just seems to put up with this sort of stuff as undesirable but inevitable.
Glad you didn't lose anything. I've only had one sword shipment trashed ever and it came via Deutsches Bundes Post to USPS.

I've had pretty good luck with UPS... I sell/trade TONS of swords and use UPS for over 80% of them. FedEx, on the other hand, has bent me over a few times... and the USPS has done it to me a couple times as well. I used to work as a shipping/Receaving Manager for a Honda Dealership... and there we delt with all the major shippers, with about equal lameness spread out between them all. For my personal shipping tho, UPS has been the best to me, especialy considering I send/receaving nearly to times as much threw them as I do threw FedEx and USPS... and yet both FedEx and USPS have screwed me over more.

I seriously didn't mean to blanket the entire UPS organization with my rant. I know a couple of guys who work for them and they would never have left a package like that. it's certainly the individual drivers that are to blame. being here on 5th Ave. in the big apple I am used to almost anything, I'm surprised that they don't just slow down and chuck it from the window.

Homemade cookies. My Mom makes homemade cookies, that are honestly amazing beyond description. They will get better UPS service, a hotel room upgrade, better rental car, better repair man service, pretty much anything where there is some poor guy or gal stuck doing a crap job with people always complaining at them. Slip em a cookie or two and they smile get a bit happier and suddenly they are looking for ways to help you out. Seriously my Moms cookies are amazing. Just good old fashion from scratch oatmeal chocolate chip, like no one seems to make anymore. PS the secret ingredient in them is LOVE.

I've always had good luck with UPS. There was one that was kinda collapsed in the middle, but that was just the box giving out from being reused to many times.
I suppose each branch of UPS is different.

You may be able to help that particular delivery guy see the error of his ways by just filing a complaint.

I work in the Pathology Dpt. at one of the Hospitals in my local area, and we sent tissue slides and "blocks" of tissue to, other labs, like Mayo clinic, and other large hospitals for consults, for our Dr's and Patients.
We use almost across the board, use: FedX, booth to and from.
We have had all the rest "loose" non-replaceable human tissue, with peoples treatments for cancer being effected as a result.
I dont know about the rest of the country, but around my "neck of the woods" I have to say FedX is the way to go.
Now I wave not gotten "long" boxes from any of them YET, (that will change on Tue. by the tracking Email) so we will see.

I have had good luck with UPS. The deliveryman is always cheerful and always says "Hey, you're welcome buddy!" when I say thank you.

I've not have bad experiences like damaged goods, maybe a dinged up box or something, but never damaging the stuff inside. Then again, it seems everyone I get stuff from packs the boxes quite well. My biggest problem is the fact that UPS seems to like to delay my shipments. Well, I'd take delays over damage any day.

I've had that Happen once, though not quite as bad, to my windlass Baron. Sucks.
I own and operate a courier business and I can tell you I would never be so careless with a package. But I have been privy to the inside sorting areas of both Fed-Ex and also Canada Post and I can say that packages grow wings as they are thrown from truck to bin and then bin to truck. Phones, electronics and anything with a fragile sticker on it. I knew the guys at the Post Office personally and many of them didn't care. Whenever I mentioned it they'd laugh and make a joke. I once saw a Gibson acoustic guitar on it's stopover to another destination. I fret to think what happened to that poor EXPENSIVE guitar.

I feel your pain. I took delivery of a sword on Friday via USPS. After I got it in the house, I noticed the tip had punched through the brutally beaten box and was essentially ground off. Looks like it was dragged through the distribution center tip down. nice. Well, since it was a Windlass 1860 Naval Cutlass and was had for the princely sum of $39.95, it wasn't worth sending back. Since the edge was about 1/8" thick, the sword needed serious belt grinder attention and the tip problem would be and was remedied. This brings to mind a question. Are all sabers this bloody thick in cross section or is it just Windlass?
