I was looking at Paul Chens Korean Cloud Sword, and his Qi Jian. I don't know, but I think these ites are new, cause I can't find anything about them aside from the retailers bias. Okay, so these items aren't exactly sub-$300, but they are in the less expensive genre. I was wondering if anyone has seen or had any experience with 2 items. What I am most interested in is handling and durability. Like center of balance, flexibility, edge retention, etc.

I just downloaded the new catalogue WOW www.casiberia.com/upload/CAS2007-RC3.pdfSome of the new top end stuff is awesome, good to see the Practical Katana now has a removeable tsuka too. I've had my eye on both the Korean Cloud Sword and the Corn Leaf Sabre for a while in the non-japanese stuff. Its only $ that stop me buying them

I was tempted by the corn leaf saber, but I don't know about the quality. Yeah, the Qi Jian and Cloud sword are a little more pricey, but I think it would be worth it. I have heard bad things about Paul Chen's Practical Jian series, and my thoughts are that it extends to the Adam Hsu collection. Mind you they look amazing, but probably for tai chi, not for cutting.

So no one has any experience with either of these swords? boo hoo. I don't want to make a blind $600 investment.

Sorry Hornedgod, I would buy one and in a few months buy the other. No need to jump in with both feet at once. Clyde, I liked looking through some of the new stuff you put up. My interest in the coming months is gona be another SCA Rapier. I am am glad you have labeled some of them as SCA approved. I hope you make some more available because I don't see exactly what I want. Here is a link of something I have a mind: www.jamesthejust.com/images/Jack%20Silver%20new002.JPGIts a clamshell type hilt but punched full of holes to bring the weight down. The other characteristic I like is long straight quillions. Here is another style I am considering: www.jamesthejust.com/images/Rapier27.jpg

Sadly it comes down to demand Blood.I have looked seriously into opening a blade store, both on-line and bricks and mortar.Theres a lot of different stuff out there and you need a LOT of capital to have it sitting round waiting for a buyer.Wholesalers have minimum orders you have to meet to get a decent price, then no matter what you buy the customer wants the other version or brand. Australia just doesnt have a huge sword buying population, the martial arts guys dont tend to buy more than what they need and often they will get a deal thru their dojo. Collectors like myself are few and far between and Joe Average will by a 440 set from the markets for $50. I thought knife sales might pay the rent but when you see the profit margin left if you want to stay competitive against fleabay theres just nothing in it at all. Sucks doesnt it? Edit Just found a 2003! Aussie wholesalers catalogue Practical Katana $300 Tiger Katana $1700 Spyderco Cricket Stainless folder$78.50 Leatherman Wave $118.50 to that add GST and freight and then try to add something on top for yourself ! Most people go around the aussie wholesalers and buy from the US but still, you see what your up against

yeah ronin I see what you mean mate, there really isn't a big market here, the problem is though i would imagine getting swords and weapons into the country is really quite difficult and there is the wait and whatever to think about.

If the parcel and freight come to under $1000 Aus customs arent interested, so long as its legal to own(and swords are).
