Yeah I agree you you avery. This could do with its own thread. My definition of a viral review: Any review where there is a conflict of interest. Excellent topic of discussion! I'll look for your new thread and can't wait to hear the argument! Peaceful, of course...

I don't know about you guys, but I almost always put a link to where it can be purchased in the review... the posted review template asks the writer to "say where they got it from", and the best way to do that in my mind is post a link. No foul there... Is there a conflict of interest? I hope not; I try to be as unbiased as possible, especially when reviewing a "review team sword." Take my last double review, for example - a review of Musashi's 2 "presentational" katanas. I actually had to back off the language because it was TOO strong; apparently describing a katana as "schizophrenic" isn't appropriate... I kept both of those swords but was very critical of them, because they deserved it. Personally I've always felt more pressure to like a sword if I sink hard earned money into it. Then I notice a flaw and my heart sinks, while my brain is saying "It's not that bad, it's not that bad!" It can be really hard to write without an agenda but I do my best, trying to be accurate about the sword's qualities good and bad. Especially knowing that sometimes what makes the buyer happy isn't necessarily something that is perfect - which is one reason why I prefer my SBG 330 Custom - despite the issues! - over my hanwei Golden Oriole, despite the vast difference in quality. I have a friend who owns a few katanas and his favourite is a 60$ Musashi because of the looks and the sentimental value. It's a personal thing. That being said... I have to update this review as some things are coming up since writing that need to be addressed - unrelated to this conversation, but occurring alongside it (I think the thread on viral marketing sounds interesting, so let's take that to a new thread). Update: When I posted this review I was waiting on a few details to add to it, and DSA was going to get back to me. I decided to post the review as is and just update later. After posting this review a few kind SBG members sent me emails asking me to look into a few things on the katana from DSA that I still had. After examining it more thoroughly, I contacted Eyal from DSA with my concerns, which were: - the ito and sageo appeared to be chemical fiber, not silk - I actually have a hard time telling the two apart, and it's my inexperience that kept me from noticing it sooner. This was news to DSA as they had specifically ordered silk. - the tsuba was non-magnetic - it does not appear to be iron, though they had ordered iron tsubas with the swords. This is something that didn't occurred to me to check, but I will be doing from now on with "iron" tsubas... That plus the fake rayskin is adding up to some unfortunate conclusions; that this model was not shipped to DSA as ordered. Eyal has informed me that he is following up with the forge about this, and in the meantime will be dropping the price (he said he'd announce it shortly). To the folks reading this review; Sorry for not catching these things earlier - like I said, I've got alot to learn.

to my mind if the sword have its flaws and is not to your liking but is strong enough to withstand the rigor of cutting practice, it is a good oportunity to make some customisation on it so it can be to your taste ;D

Another community I'm involved in is in the process of actually MAKING an open source handheld videogame console. The Chinese place that's making the cases has rewritten deadlines about a dozen times, and when the initial batch finally came in, the finish was absolutely terrible. It's fairly disappointing when stuff like that happens... Eyal, not trying to flip out about the booklet. But I still think you should talk to the writer, at the very least about the Ryumon reference, lol.

Hi Everyone, I'm still waiting for a response from Hattori. He is still on bread due to the Chinese new year. It's unfortunate, but it seems like he make a few errors on this model (simulated ray skin, Chemical fiber)... quite frustrating. We will be reducing the price on this model to 200$. The price will be adjusted on Monday. Thanks Daniel for catching those issues... Daniel, i was wondering something about the darksword armory katanas more precisely the folded ones... since you have handled one of these i hope you may have some answers for me ;D
ok the question is: is the blade look frosty because of the folded steel? on the website of darksword armory it looks like it is not shiny but rather really mat with no reflections or not many and on your pictures it looks like it too but is it an unpleasy sight or someone who doesn't saw one would be pleased with it?
also im looking forward to see some test cutting but i know it is not really the time in winter ;D
