If you feel like waiting a while, Sonny said they're redoing the Norseman. I can't wait for that one. ;D

If you feel like waiting a while, Sonny said they're redoing the Norseman. I can't wait for that one. ;D Wow...that's a tough one! These are all appear to be good swords for the money, I sure wish there was some way to handle and test each of these swords side by side before I make my purchase. Waiting for a updated/redone Norseman is very temping. Any idea on what changes they are considering and when? I really like the look of the Norseman, but several here have advised that it's too heavy at 4lb 6.6ozs. While I consider all the advice received here to be very worthy of full consideration, I'm still leaning heavily towards the Norseman despite the weight. I'm trying to remember what my SCA broad sword weighed back twenty years ago...I do remember some very tired arms at the end of the day. The HT 9th Century Viking Sword has the lower weight at 2lb 8.5ozs, which should make for a very fast blade, it is a fine looking sword and nearly 2 lbs lighter than the Norseman. On the other hand the added weight of the Norseman will yield a heavy strike on impact with anything.... decisions - decisions - decisions!
The Kris Cutler Viking Sword as well as the Gen 2 8th Century Viking Sword are still in the running and situated between the lighter HT and the heavier Norseman. DANG!! I want them all!!

New Norseman will probably have a historicaly shaped type H pommel and will be lighter, maybe even longer and the blade will also be more historical - I am guessing here but these are basic things to be done to Norseman to improve it.

It'll be based off an Atrim blade... If it were me I would go with KC or wait for the Norseman. Then again it's not like I have money to say that. ;D

The old Norseman isn't worth getting. Period. Even Sonny doesn't like the old line VA swords. ;D
On the other hand, the updated one will be fantastic. It will be designed by Gus Trim to handle and cut well, and will be comparable in quality to the outstanding VA/AT304S and 303S swords reviewed here. If you want a 'quick fix', disregard the Norseman and get one of the others, but if you're willing to wait... I'd take the Norseman, definitely. ;D
Hope this helps!

We probably all need that on a T-shirt or something... YEP plus 10 on that count!! Well I finally made a decision...it's the HT 9th Century Viking Sword that gets the nod. Thanks for all the insight and advice. I'll give you all a review on it once it arrives!
