Ok I tried the search function and couldn't find anything on the company Ritter Steel. I have tried to look up reviews on their swords every now and then and the few things I can find tend to have mixed opinions. Just from the picture of the swords you can see online they all look heavily made and solid but far from traditional. I was mainly looking at their katana, of course, but their other swords too. Anyway one review said they made good beaters but another said they were just one step above being a SLO. One even claimed most of their blades were actually made from surplus tank shocks.
Well you folks seem like the people to ask, what do you know/think about them?

I dont know about the Katana sword of theres, but all the other ones are hard to swalow, Over heavy and Not trying to look corect, I just cant get over the wrong way they look, if you were looking for some fantisy sword, as to what they are called, then they would work, but nothing compaird to other makers who have way better selections and prices....just my opinion....SanMarc.

I own a Rittersteel "competition" Katana. The same Ricwilly reviewt here.
What can i tell you?
It's not a katana. I call it a eurotana. The polish: is not there, very rough machine finish. Secondary bevel but acceptable sharpness. The look of it i like it some hate it. The scabbard: again i like some hate it, you wear it like a euro sword. The blade is a bit heavy but nothing i find disturbing.
Why do i like this blade? Because when you handle it it feels like you can cut anything. It makes more traditional katanas feel like letteropeners. The thing is a tank and although i abused it very much he holds up. that's the good part about the way it looks, you'r not affraid to damage it (if you can damage it).
This one, i'm very happy to have in my collection.

I do not own a Ritter blade.
The impression that I have gotten from reading on this forum and elsewhere is that they are maybe equal to the first generation Valiant Armory stuff and thats it. Sword shaped-Yes Shiny in some spots-Yes Wood on one end-Yes Balanced-No Blade heavy-Yes Nigh on impossible to tear up-Yes Historically correct-No
There are exceptions to every rule of course, and you could do far worse than a Ritter. You could also do far better.

I quite enjoyed the feel and the dance of the rittersteel celtic which I had my hands on for a while, with a strong arm and good heat treat I think it would be a fantastic sword. I never got to cut with it but as long as the treat is good it'll be a tank.

I do have to admit, the big Landsknecht that Ritter does looks really neat. For the right price I would buy one.

I have the swordbreaker by Ritter. It's a beast but its pretty nice. You could easily use it to trap and break another blade.

As Insane said I have the Competition Kat. I agree with his assessment of it except on the sharpness, I had to work on the edge of mine to get it to cut bottles tho I coulda probably took down a small tree with the edge it came with.
I also picked up their gladius on ebay. It's a heavy cumbersome thing but it's a gladius and I got it cheap.
The Celtic Wraith mentioned interests me, tho I haven't handled it, I saw a guy on youtube cutting with one and it looks capable enough.
Stay away from their "Stage Steel" line. Just stay away.

Have the odachi.
It's cool for what it is, but it's definitely not a very usable sword. It's quite floppy, unusually shaped, and about impossible to get through a target without some work on the blade.
All in all, I like it, though. It was my first big sword, so it holds a special place in my collection.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at ritter steel before I found this site and settled on my musashi but was still thinking about getting one later either as a gift for someone or as a heavy beater that might do double duty as a machete.

I have their double-headed battle axe. Pretty durably made.
An acquaintance of mine has Rittersteel's zwiehander. It's heavy, but it stood up to the rigors of stage combat. Plus, it's *very* period-looking. I can recommend their battle axe and zwiehander based on personal experience.

The war sword weights 5lbs so it's a heavy sword. But looks ok The lion-crest i couldn't find the weight. If you like the looks of those, have you looked in to the iberia line from Cas? I like the looks of those and seeing the video review i was impressed. www.wiwingtiswordsupply.com/iberialine.htmlJusty look at the price and then see this video.

The thing is that rittersteel don't move with the times, you can get much better looking and handling swords from other companies that rittersteel can't even compare with, the only real selling point for ritter is the price.
