Aren't they all? My sister recently got hacked by some dude in Nigeria who sent out a mass email saying she was in UK and needed $900.00 to get home. Of course I knew better, so I called her and told her. She tracked the guy down and got his cell phone number and got control of her account back. However, the most disturbing thing about the whole ordeal is this: My nephew is an active duty Marine and has had to go to a JAG for some legal help. This hacker idiot was having conversations with the JAG about my nephew...and the JAG never knew it wasn't my sister! How messed up is that!?

Someday, SOMEDAY, I'm going to persue one of these "deals" simply to get the bogus cashier's check they inevitably send to you as a souvenir. You know - "I sending you a surtified cashiers check for the sum of 1200$USD and will be to trusting you to sending me the remain 450$USD".
Heh, punk-arse scammers.

Is it just me, or has this site been hacked 3 times recently? The latest was Friday night, I logged in, the site disappeared, and some bogus antivirus appeared I killed it and didn't try to get on again until this afternoon All hackers should die too

That Vbullsemprinieingly thing that seemed to be giving people problems, never appeared for me, although the site did load slow once on Saturday. One would think that the last place anyone would want to muck about would be on a firearms or edged weapons board, but if they were smart they would have jobs.

That happened to me as well, Swordmonger. The bogus antivirus is a really bad virus. My roommate spend four days rebuilding my computer, and I lost everything. It happened to one of the computers at work, too. Thankfully it's an old one that had no customer info or network connections on it. On the upside, they both run better after mine was rebuilt and the one at work had windows reinstalled! ;D
...Perhaps it's time to switch hosts? SBG was open on Mozilla at work; at home, it was on Opera, so I'm not so sure the browser really had that much to do with it.

I got the bogus AV thing awhile back, but my actual anti-virus caught it and I was able to close it in time. I PM'ed Paul through facebook about it, but I think it was a proboards issue.

This guy/group just sent me an email on my private account. I have no clue how he got it. I did join a couple more forums yesterday, but I made certain my email was hidden. The address, timestamp and message below:
Re: Japanese Katana & Tanto
From: Pawel Nowak (luytjens1939@gmail.com) Sent: Fri 3/12/10 6:31 AM
To: me@mymail.com (changed cause, well, s' my email address.)
Hello:
I am a private collector and I have 2 japanese swords (katana and tanto) with the blade from XVIII century. I would like to sell them for the reasonable price (700US$ and 450US$). If you could have an interest, please write directly to: luytjens1939@gmail.com

I'm actually going to have my roommate take a look and see if he can track the IP address So I can turn him in to the proper authorities. Then I'll delete it.

Scambaiting... Reminds me of something my mother just did with some decent legal advice from her lawyer...
She got into one of those "Please cash this check" deals far enough that they actually sent her the check. She opened a new account with the check and instructed the bank that no one was to withdraw electronically. Any withdrawals had to be in person. She now has an extra grand that the scammers were never able to pull out of the account. Surprisingly, they sent her a Real check. Not so surprisingly, they never told her where to send the cash.

That is quite awesome, Taran.
Along the same vein, not twelve hours after I got that email, someone tried to use our bank account (debit card really, I guess) to make a $1,300.00 purchase from BestBuy.com and a $600.00 purchase from Target.com. Since we're broke flatter than a flittercake, they really chose the wrong account. ;D Our bank stopped the suspicious transactions and their Loss prevention is investigating. All our passwords have been changed. I just had to laugh.

makes me want to take his email and sign him up for all kinds of stupid things on the internet, hoping his inbox will blows up in size that he can't use it anymore. Like girlie magazines and beauty products he'll never need or use. Is that wrong?

Some one needs to bait them to the point that they give up enough personal information that it may be a help to the proper authorities.
The problem is that when you are dealing with international problems things start to become a massive pain in the ass legally.
