The Hanwei Side sword and at least 2 of Hanwei's rapiers had the plastic grip... Billiam: I just looked at some of AC's rapiers... very nice. Do you have any experince with them? Its always hard to find a good rapier.

and the Godfred, well,WHOever, WHEREever, WHENever it was sharpened knew what they were doing....I was afraid it was too sharp and would chip, but that goat spine I cut through was HARD and not a speck of damage to the edge. A couple years ago (when I first got the Godfred) I actually threw an EMPTY beer can in the air and cut it cleanly in half diagonally, even through the thicker metal at the bottom without warping or denting the can.....(a boast I have been unable to replicate since...to my chagrin ..though Ive only tried a couple other times). Are you talking about the Hanwei Godfred Viking Sword? I love the look of that one... beautiful.... but I've heard a few people had problems with it being fragle and weak... yours sounds anything but. If I had faith in it being a sturdy sword, I'd probably try and pick one up... from what your saying... I'm getting that ol 'want one' vibe again...

Didn't Hanwei recently discontinue their mortuary sword? (It's not on their site anymore...) Hanwei makes some interesting swords, although for the price I think they could at least give them wooden grips.

I will say this in defense of Hanwei "Scott Rodell" cutting Jian - over in the Chinese section we're all going nuts waiting for the official release date on it.
They've gotten good reviews on the tinker stuff, and I do love the hilt on the side sword, dang it now I need to go find a winning lottery ticket....

No first hand experience with the Armour Class rapiers (though I loved to have the Pappenhiemer with the blacken guard), but I'd dare say anything from A-C will be grand. Armour Class is highly use and recommended by many in the UK and Europe. cheers, Bill

I've put it through some abuse since Ive owned it and its held up very well, all fittings are still tight. Just a slight set to the blade where my edge alignment was bad on a heavy stroke and the wood grip feels like it may have split a bit under the leather wrap but its nothing alarming....just a tiny bit of movement and a clicking feeling....but like I said I have USED it. I too have seen probably the same posts you're thinking of. I think Hotspur had the one that broke (even though it was the older model)....but after seeing what's under the hood on the Godfred I take it easy on it now....still cuts through bottles like butter, but I wouldn't go shield bashing with it. I too, now view it as a bit fragile after those posts, so either I got a really good one or I have been lucky. I would say if you could find one on for a good deal, pick one up if it looks good to you....but I wouldn't pay over $300 for one.

I loved my Godfred, but it got a crack along the edge after some not that abusive use and that dissapointed me and I replaced it in the store. And the pommel got loose.
