Earlier this year, I had started a thread on the possibility of used Albions reaching the sub-$300 price point due to the recession. These swords are great, but for the most part, they have been priced beyond what I (and many others) would care to pay for them. I began obtaining used Albions for my collection earlier this year, as the market seemed flooded with priced at pretty good discounts. After purchasing a few, I developed a goal in the back of my mind to obtain a sub-$300 Albion this year from somewhere; just to say that I had one that I paid SBG price range for. It's more or less of an OC type thing; I just wondered if I'd be able to do it. The the chance came along to own a sub-$200 Albion instead of a sub-$300 one... Last week, I noticed a $150 Albion Squire Knightly pop up in the classifieds on another board. I jumped on it and paid for it almost just as soon as the listing appeared. The listing stated that the sword is on OK condition, with some scratching and use. I figured if the thing was in Narsil-like pieces in a box or tied in a pretzel-knot, it was worth $150; less when you consider that the shipping was free. The sword came yesterday, packaged nicely in the original white Albion box. Opening it, I was suprised. The sword was in almost brand-new condition with the Albion factory edge. There were some very slight scratches on the blade and a few minor dark spots on the guard/pommel, but these were all superficial and easily removed with a grey Scotchbrite pad. Comparing it with my Next Gens, the Squire series is of the same quality; they are just of a simpler, no-frills design. It is a plain, yet elegant sword, with proper form in the wide fuller and distal taper. The sword, as reviewed here and on other sites, performs nicely. It's a quick, nimble, and agile blade with the authority and presence that a Type XII should have. I am more than impressed, and though it is not my priciest sword, it certianlly performs on par with my most-expensive blades. I am definately chalking this up as my best buy in 2009. It's really not bad at all for a sub-$200 sword.

I am very happy with it and do consider myself to be pretty lucky. ;D It's the exact same blade as the Knight, Caithess, and Laird, so as far as a Type XII goes; this is pretty much the cream of the crop unless you go custom. I have better swords than this, but I don't have better value for the money; so to speak. An Albion for the price of a Deepeeka is just crazy, even my wife recognized it for the value.

YOU LUCKY SON-OF-A-GUN!!! That is a downright bit of luck. I bought one of those a few months back, thinking I got a good deal for more that twice what you paid. Congratz! Looking to see some cutting with that one.

Thanks for the complements. I'm not sure how much work I'll put into it. I'll definately do a scabbard at some point, but as for a regrip or adding patina, I don't know yet. If I were to do anything, I'd engrave a Jerusalem Cross on the pommel (like on the Albion Landgraf) and add a few risers under dark brown wrap. ...i really like your scratched up old table... Actually, that is an old cedar chest that I use to keep my Ren faire clothing in. It's pretty beat up, but it works. I picked it up off of the side of the road when someone threw it out. I thought about refinishing it at some point, but it has so much character as is...

Now who on GODS GREEN EARTH would unload an albion for a bill and a half?? I'm guessing his wife caught him cheating, and decided to sell his most prized possessions on the cheap, to get up on him. Odin, you probably just ran through your entire year's-worth of good luck on this one! Nicely done!
