So, here is a mini revue Of Windlasses Dark Age Sax!!!
First off it came in a nice box with lots of paper padding inside so the Sax was secure, Fast shipping by the way! (KOA)
As you may have guessed, I got this from Kult of Athena, $89.95+shipping for a grand total of $99.73
It came with a card that stated it was made in India by Windlass.
I didn't get the sharpening option, but being close to Christmas, they must have thrown it in for GP, it came sharp........Wicked sharp! Not to happy about the secondary bevel, as it took off about a 1/32 worth of meat, I am going to modify this blade, so not to big a deal.
Handling, Man is this knife well balanced!! Slices through the air like nothing!!
Took a two litter bottle and sliced it in half like it was not there!!
Sheath, It sucks, looks like the blade will cut through it in no time.
Will have new one made for modified blade anyway, but if you get the unsharpened one, it will do.
the brass tack handle grips nice, and you can transfer from the hammer grip to the handshake grip nicely.
So I tried to take off the pommel, and had to use heat as it was locktited on, the tang looks good, and no weld thread, it is forged then threaded.
the hilt fits slightly lose and the handle is keyed but turns after I took off the pommel.
the steel is 1065. and at 13" long with six inches for the Handel at 19" overall! Big knife!!
the point of balance is 5/8th from the hilt.
width is 1 1/2" and 1/8 thick.
It is 1 pound, thats 16oz's!
The tang is 1/2" at the hilt.
The design is Etched on and well done, has "Windlass made in India" on one side and the usual sticker on the other side.
Ok, so the blade has some historical precedence, but the hilt/handle/pommel doesn't.
the scabbard could be better designed, but for the price, it is not to bad.
Worth adding to your collection and fun to cut with!!
Hope you enjoyed this mini revue......SanMarc.
