Seems like a pretty decent overall knife. Not sure I'd pay that much for it, but that's where Kabar gets you these days. Shop around, see if you can find it for less.

Looks pretty good, I myself am a Ka-Bar fan- looks like AUS8-A is getting more popular, maybe due to Cold Steel? Pretty good. I like its shape and all. If I had $80 don't doubt it would be a good piece to buy.

I've got one of the "classic" KA-BAR USMC knife, and I love it. I know KA-BAR makes good stuff, the real question is whether or not you feel the price they charge for their stuff is fair. I really like the way that knife looks.

Keep the blade shape in mind while you shop around and by all counts shop around because of the cost.
Personally? I hate the synthetics, while appreciating the possible ergonomics. Bob designs nice knives. I see compromise all over this though, as I am quite familiar with actual Dozier knives but I can appreciate another's preferences and first impressions. Whether meant to be cool or not, the blackened blade reads strike two to my gut reaction. Add a clacky kydex (although perfectly usable) scabbard and that reads strike three to me.
Personal preferences, especially for mid size fix blades would cause this one (while it looks well enough made) to drop from any list I kept in mind. To be honest, I have probably not given G-10 enough credit but I've handled while never owned a knife with it.
My 2 cents

Thanks for the input, guys! I wasn't even thinking about the price because I'm not intending to buy it (saving up for Hanwei/Tinker Norman). It just caught my eye, and I wanted to know what you guys would think.

Mole': I thought the synthetics were a bit on the tacky side also, but I still like the overall look of it. Thanks for the input!

In returning to this thread for a second look I find I agree with Mole'. Price aside, I tend to avoid blackened blades (especially those coated thusly via paint or whatever) as they simply don't wear well. Not one for synthetics, either, I can live with them but given a choice i'd say no. The scabbard issue...well, now that I think of it my Kabar Warthog that I bought many years ago has pretty much everything I have come to hate on user knives; the blackened blade, rubber grip, and that wacky scabbard. The knife even chipped once when I tried to chop a toothpick out of boredom. Paint is peeling off the center of the blade and where it's gone is starting to rust; haven't kept it in the scabbbard because it takes up too much room in the display box I have, but the scabbatd itself has not worn well, either. Ultimately, for $80, I must admit I've been eying Boker's "mini smatchet," thinking "if only the grip wasn't rubber..." for some time... I think I'd go with something from Kanetsune, though...despite having inadvertently ruined my original Akatsuki... Why not get a small sax or dagger to complement the Norman?

I suppose it would be a good knife for the price if you had a use for it, or you just liked it! Although I really think lock back knives are better than fixed blades!

I just think they're better cause they're more portable, plus where I live you can legaly carry them concealed. (here fixed blades are supposed to be worn openly on a belt.)

I'm lucky. ;D Knife laws simply don't exist here. Well, except for the outright ban of knives that shoot out the blade as a projectile, but who want one of those anyway? -Slayer

I carry the knife I want to carry, under what I want to keep it under. I'll leave the law for when I get caught in commission of a crime with said knife. That said, I'm not allowed anything bigger than 3.5" and it isn't supposed to be concealed.

I would have to say the Kabar is a good choice. They are a very reputable company with great products at a decent price. However, in that price range I would suggest looking at a SOG Seal Pup. In most cases the SOG knives come with a slightly narrower bevel which makes sharpening a whole lot easier. With the Kabar they are more of a utility bevel which is great for heavy cutting but not so good for everyday use. But its your call, stick with your gut feeling that usually is the right choice.

Understandable though and not meant to offend. knife-expert.com/fl.txtFlorida is one state that issues permits specifically for the concealed wearing of most knives except what is deemed a common pocket knife. Don't bet your freedom on assumptions. But this assumption is from a youngster, so learn while young I guess.
