That was like a compressor hose rupturing. o.o; (As in: Big boom, and everyone goes, "What the hell was that?!") I've used many swords that were sub $300 and they've performed just fine. Had verifiable steel types and visible tidbits to confirm the quality of the heat treats.
Anyhoo, for a rough reshaping, that kissaki doesn't look bad at all. Keep an eye on the shape of the kissaki, make sure the angles are crisp, and pull the whole face in level, and it will be better than new!

I had a $145 sword that outcut many of the more expensive swords I have used, the only reason I got rid of it was because of the balance and the weight. I will agree to the what the hell comment, I've never seen you put anything you've made up for review or comment sui.

Wasn't this the guy with the home-made euro sword "for cutting" and priced it like $5000 on ebay before re-pricing it because of SBG's general reaction?

That makes four of us citing a big WTF in response to that outburst, since it seemed not only initially out of place in this thread, but then obviously they came back for seconds.....
To the broken kissaki, I'd say that's a good job moving all of that steel. Personally, I would've kept more of the straight, chisel-point, despite the jabs about a 'hollywood ninja' blade, simply because my personal aesthetic would say 'straight blade, straight chisel point'...
If you were hoping to work out some of those scratches running the length, what I've done with my cheness was take take the blade down to coarse grit sanding sponges (any auto zone carries them), working my way up all of the levels they have, then an 800 grit sandpaper, and finally a rubbing compound, which usually sits around 1500 grit, its gotten me a nice, functional semi-mirror polish...
I'm sure the more experienced gents here have better methods, but that one's worked for me, plus, its fun to do outside on a sunny weekend.... Granted, right now, there's not much sun....
