well i guess you could do it indoors but then its a matter of how good your form and technique and is there matter of having a high ceiling and lots of breakables (i.e. garage?) ... i have a pretty open living room to practice kata and suburi with my iaito

Coudl do it with a wakizashi... diff feel but thats one thign I used to do in order to deal with cramped spaces.

I can use a decent-length sword indoors. Have for years. Sometimes in spaces as small as 4-5 feet wide. Spatial awareness and adaptability and all that. How did we get to indoor swording, anyway? I seem to have missed that turn...

A video will help I'm betting your edge alignment is off, and or you're chopping rather than slicing. Your grip will have an affect on how well you cut too. I think he's saying if you post a video of you cutting then people could offer advice. I know when I did I got some really good advice that helped me immensely.
