INteresting... Though my understanding of San Mai (maybe there are diff kinds?) is that you have the hard steel int he middle and the softer pieces on the outside... titanium as I understand it is unsuitable for swords because its rather brittle.

The titanium is on the outsides of that san mai. Titanium is unsuitable for blades because it doesn't hold an edge.

Surely he way trying to say pattern-wielded three layer (san mai) construction. Very nice but that cost more than a few pretty pennies.

Those gawking at the price, let me just say that outside of this small forum, there is a whole nother world of blade collecting, with prices and blades and quality you couldn't dream about.

LoL at my spelling I'll be honest I don't know much about knives, especially those that cost more than $500. So what do you think about the price of this knife? Is it worth the money?

To the right buyer of course, that and more even. If I had the money and I was a knife collector? probably I would buy it, won't ever see another exactly or even similar to it ever again.

I didn't know you could forge weld titanium to steel. From what I understand, titanium is very strong, and even lighter than aluminmum. It gets used a lot for aircraft parts. I think that knives and swords constructed this way would be very good, with the titanium giving the blade toughness, and the steel core for edge retention. Sounds like a good beater sword to me, plus the neat colors. Just the price tag would be a serious buzz kill If a knife cost $2,500.00, what would the sword cost I can just see my dream sword, a katana with this blade construction, a titainium tsuba, Kraton grips instead of the usual Tsuka ;D

I thought titanium was very hard. Wouldn't that allow it to hold a good edge, but just to brittle for something as long as a sword? Do I understand that right? That knife is gorgeous though, I like the blade shape and the pattern welded look.

That's quite a price tag there lol...this is the first time that I've heard of titanium being used in a blade. I am by far not an expert in metals, but I thought, as gman stated, that it was a very hard metal and could hold a good edge. Hmmm, seems some research is at hand....

I was looking at the handle and thinking "those look like a pair of legs...what the heck?"...and then I noticed the words sitting in the upper-right hand of the picture...duh

That's a really cool coloration and pattern on that second one, but it's far more than I'd ever be willing to pay for a knife.
