Obviously this poll is only for water bottles. I think that cutting soda bottles without drinking the contents first would be hazardous to the blade's finish. Citric and phosphoric acid can't be good for blades right?
But this question really never came to mind until I saw a video of a guy pulling water bottles straight out of the value pack and putting them on the block.
I personally don't find anything wrong with this as long as the bottles don't end up in a landfill. Because ~3 dollars for 24 targets is a hell of a deal!

Other people drink 90% of the bottles I cut. Me and my woman drink about 5%. Of the 5% virgin bottles, sometimes I drink from them after I cut them.

I've thought about going down to the recycling center and working out a deal where I take as many as I want as long as I bring them back... albeit in pieces, but I would bring them back regardless.
But that might be a bit gross, handling other people's backwash.

Oh yes, I only ever sever emptied bottles. My miserly ways would not allow for cutting bottles containing water that had been purchased. It's just the idea of it, more than anything. Not surprisingly, since we drink very little bottled beverages, I don't have many bottles to cut.

I normally cut used bottles . though I once, after the delivery of a new sword, went out and bought a load of cheap water bottles.

I, most of the time, buy 1-2 large packs of small water bottles and cut them straight out of the box. Not the most ecological thing to do, but I have my reasons to do so, which are ;
1) I don't drink/use a lot of liquid containers, so it takes a lot of time to gather a decent number of cutting targets.
2) My apartment doesn't have free space left for more than a few empty bottles or cutting target.
3) I like cutting many targets per cutting session.
I often tell myself that the water contained in these bottles comes from the city where I live (it is printed on the bottles in tiny prints, the bottles are filled in Montreal ...) and it ends up refreshing the lawn ... Guess that's how I rationalise that I'm not that non-ecological ...

I use pre-used bottles.
Protip: Most bottled water is pretty nasty. The QC on them is fairly low.

Being at college, I just need to walk over to someone's room and take all the bottles from their recycling bin, so really, I don't buy or drink

Hahaha, it's funny that digging thru the trash was mentioned.
Today I was helping my dad take out his trash and I saw a bunch of bottles in the recycling can. Needless to say that I ran to my car to grab a trash bag (Always keep a box in the trunk) and proceeded to remove all the plastic from the can.
Now if it would just stop raining here, I could get around to filming a longer cutting movie.

I get lots of water and soda bottles from people at the office. The people here are almost all martial arts folks, and there is even another swordsman here, so everybody knows what I need the bottles for I rinse out the soft drink bottles several times with hot water, then let them dry. I then cap them until I refill them with tap water and cut them. That way no nasty has a chance to grow in them while they are stored

I actually retrieve all the bottles I cut from my works recycling bin I dont believe in bottled water there is numerous statistics about how its not better than tap water and I dont know why someone would pay for a bottle of water its just ludacris among various other social and various reasons for me not using it

I have a sympathetic group of underlings who supply me with their trash, uh I mean plastic bottles so I may cut them. Its win win. Now if I could get around to taking the 7 trash bags full of bottle parts to the recycling bin down the road I would consider it a triumph of community...

For actual bottles I always drink all of it. But for the milk jug type gallons of water I just cut them new. I'm vegan so I don't have any empty milk containers to fill with water so it is easier to just buy the gallons of water and cut them up.

All my bottles are usually diet soda bottles or someone else's water bottles. But they are always used bottles.

I drink a good amount of soft drink and lots of milk and bottled water, we go through alot of the soft milk containers which is good as they make the easiest cutting medium and hey calciums good right ......... One thing I do buy is demineralised water in the big light gallon jugs to just cut ........ at 2 dollars each ............ its not so bad and waters the grass .......... any chopped bottles go in the recycling so I like to think our hobby "Double Recycles" .......
