O, shucks, lessee.... First, I'm assuming a zombie-rise scenario where my folding stock AK47 and Sig P226 are too noisy. So, with that in mind... My first choice is a nice, sturdy, blade heavy cutlass/saber, stout guard and slightly curved blade, perhaps a Cold Steel 1917 or Blucher pattern saber. Next, a Quama or other gladius type. nice and stabby, and they make decent crowbars, too. Finally, possibly the most versatile cutting tool ever designed, a Windlass Steelcrafts Kukri (Accept no substitutes!) Fighting knife, utility knife, machete, hunting knife, small shovel, it does it all.

Given my style of fighting.....I would carry something like the Bristol worn on the hip and a 30 inch center grip steel round shield. I would make the edges razor sharp so it would be a secondary offensive weapon that could not only block but lop off the heads of the Zombies.
My secondary weapon would be a hand and a half like the Kriegschwert, which I would wear over the shoulder.
Round it all off with a 14 inch dagger on the right hip as my final back up weapon.

Weapons I got now (as in happens tommorow ya know)
1) Windlass Euro Spear ...... its actually heavy, sharp and will go through lots plus reach 2) DSA Gothic, with my LIMITED longsword training and footwork I could make it work 3) My Laredo Bowie, fairly sturdy, tool knife, good for CQB
My Hanwei Short Bearded Axe could come usefull as a belt axe, flat back for hammering, wood working, smashing stuff and paired with the Laredo quite good.
If I could have it all:
1) A&A Knightly Pole Axe for reach, hacking and skull crushing mayhem 2) Albion Yeoman with Buckler for closer work 3) Rondel Dagger
What I should be taking really:
1) A crowbar for beating, breaking and breaking in 2) Good two handed axe with a flat back for chopping wood an zoms and sledging with the back 3) I really good knife 4) A multitool 5) Large pack of matches and flint n steel for when they run out
because zombie survival is really regular woodsie survival but with canabalistic undead freaks

Well... I can only guess about weapons I have not owned... so I'll select from mine. For a Zombie siege... (We are talking clasic, slow, shambling mindless zombies, none of those super fast nasty zombies... those are scary.) I'd go with my Gen 2 Chaos sword. Its a BEEFY blade, whacking heads and limbs off with it would be pretty easy... and its got a lot of grip and is surprisingly easy to control I've killed many pumpkins and watermellons with it... and pumkin killing season is upon us once more! For more of a Mad-Max type world... I'd go with my Elven Saber and Drik from Fable Blades. I'm starting to get pretty comfortable with them... and they are DURABLE as hell... and low maintence.

In a world where we have firearms, there is no such thing as a Top 3 Swords in a zombie scenario. It sorta works like this... and this... and lastly, this...

Just look at the survival sword thread, that answers all questions. I'd go with a tactical sword with an overall length of 40" with a long grip for two handed use.

When it comes down to it, I gotta go with Odingaard's first pick for Zombie killing... also my first pick for home defence as well. Nothing says 'piss off' like a shotgun.

1. A Howard Clark L6 katana with a long nagasa, a blade even thicker than traditional, and a first rate synthetic katate-maki wrap.
2. A viking sword by Patrick Barta or Jake Powning in L6, with a wider blade than common and as thin as traditional viking swords. Perhaps shorter than the average too. Probably some leathery wrap, since neither Barta nor Powning seems to work with anything but wood and metal for handles.
3. A traditionally forged Japanese katana, since none here is screaming "GIMME EXCALIBUR" I guess any highly rated contemporary smith is okay rather than wishing for a blade by the best in history.
About those arguing about guns.. beyond the fact that this thread is about traditional weapons, aren't usually zombies as portrayed in fiction rather resilient towards bullets? I've gotten the impression that chain saws and machetes are the preferred zombie hunter weapon, due to the fact that decapitating or removing a few limbs is more efficient than putting some useless holes in a zombie chest.

Check out this link, its great. zombietools.net/about-zombie-tools/"Beyond zombies, there’s no shortage of speculation these days that our culture lives just a good shock or two away from some serious destabilization. Pandemic, natural disaster, economic collapse, political upheaval—all have the potential to turn our world on its head and put you in a situation where your survival is in your hands. And should that happen, we’d rather our hands be holding something other than our dicks. We operate under the premise that if you’re prepared for zombies, you’re prepared for anything."

That third pic on page two reminds me of my kukri (Spelling differ pretty widley, basically a Gurkha knife). Knife blade is only about a foot long though. I do have to say I think it would be a good close in zombie killer...I think I'd rather use an axe though.

The most lethal of weapons in RicWilly's arsenal? That mean-mug. Look at him, dude is serious! ;D Mental preparedness shoulda been on the top of my list if we were talking about things other than blades. @ Snall, The khukri is a great choice! I would go for the martial-arts-oriented design of Khuk called the 'Sirupati'. It has a considerably less broad blade, but is just as tough and sometimes is longer than the average khuk! here. on the left is a more commonly known khukri and the right is the notably skinnier, longer reaching sirupati.

That is a BEAUTIFUL pair of Khukri. That's the first sirupati I have ever seen. And I love the looks of it! Is it a production piece? Or is it custom? (my bet is custom)
