How much do you have for funds? Well now, that's a broad question lol. All in total, Hilt, blade, fittings, scabbard I would REALLY like to keep my cost under 1,000 However, I'm wanting a San-Mai blade and a different scabbard (I'm thinking something a little less traditional, laquered and polished white scabbard that has a more blade-like shape to it with matching fittings on the but and throat) So I understand if that goal is a little unreasonable. I can probably go higher as long as I'm allowed to pay out over time.

If you are after something chinese then you should talk to Garrett at Jin-Shi, he can probably find a way to realise any sort of idea you have as long as the general premise of the piece is chinese.

Already sent him an email to get things started though on his site it says he isn't currently taking orders. Still, doesn't hurt to shop around and get an idea of what sort of headache and financial burden I'm looking at here

Hey, Sam. Iwas wondering if maybe this thread needed to be moved to member designs since it seems to have developed into an actual design brainstorm.
Also as a side note, I was very impressed with Swodsage's YouTube review of his Han style jian, but more importantly the customer service of the company he got it from, Jin Shi. I contacted Garret Chan about possibly taking this comission, but unfortunately he felt it was too big a project for his forge. He recomended I get in touch with Keneth Hakegard of Zheng-Wu / Qing-Zhong. So that's where I am with this, currently in talks with Keneth, working out specifics and going over options. Currently I'm looking at a 32,000 layer-Japanese finger stone polished blade, camel bone for the grip, and the white American holly for the scabbard assuming I can find a piece big enough to fit the 1" x 2" x 36" dimensions needed.

Wow. That is very very very nice. Thanks, Lunaman! I'm proud of the design. Gonna cost me a small fortune to get made though lol.

Yeah, okay, I'll give you the fact that plastic is pretty darn durable, but it seems so cheap. I mean when you're describing the beautiful custom sword to someone, wouldn't you be just a tad embarrassed to tell them: "yeah it's got a 20,000 layer folded steel blade, sterling silver fittings hand-carved by a master silversmith, rosewood scabbard with silk bindings... And the handle is grade A industrial plastic!". Have you given polymer a thought. White hardened polymer is the stuff they make modern cutting boards from. you would have the white substance, it would be very durable, and though it can be likened unto plastic, it would not be per say. By the way that is an excellent design.

Hi there Violentseranade,I may be able to help you with materials-I'm new to the forum and am not really computer compatent nor knowledge in how to really get around in here but I'll do my best and hope I dont offend to many peolple out there. But anyways,I carve Bowie knife handles out of deer and moose antlers and will check to see if I have large enough diametre pieces.I should think that you would want a full foot-I dont know if I can do that but I might be able to scrap together two good 5 or 6 inch pieces.I'll check it out and get bak to you with my E.OK
