Ah, c'mon Jon... (hey! I ryhmed! ) We're all friends here, and I know that none of us think you're 'lesser' than us. Especially not me, seeing as you're my elder by 1 year. Your gettin' OLD, man. And don't worry, good ol BW doesn't do too well with holding grudes. LOL I've said some pretty stupid things to him and he doesn't hate me yet, so that HAS to say something. Al in all, there's nothing wrong with you being indesisive, we're just anxious for you to 'join the fun' so to speak. Having a real sword is SO much cooler even than it sounds... it feels right. We're your friends, man. I've thouroghly enjoyed having you around and many of your questions have enlightened me and taught me quite a bit that I'm glad to know. LOL, if you hadn't come around and started asking these questions, I wouldn't know about half of the stuff that I do know! You're a valuable member of this forum, and there's no need to stop posting or stop asking questions. Everybody just wants to help... and sometimes we aren't very good at it. ;D -Slayer

Alright, I mostly lurk but feel the need to butt in here.. Jonathan, as a starting sword collector myself, my advice is STOP WORRYING. Now, I started from the katana side, but I'm pretty sure there's not much difference. The first sword I got was the Cheness Tenchi ko katana. Today, if i was choosing a first sword, I probably would buy something else, since I know a lot more now.. However..For the ~8 months I've had the sword, not once has the thought "I wish I had bought THAT one instead back then..." entered my head. Why? Simple. It is my first swordYes, there are things I noticed I dislike after getting it, like the fake hamon (blech), but that gave me better appreciation and understanding of hamon in general. This is what your first sword is; a stepping stone to more. And a tool of learning. I'm pretty sure the recommendations you've gotten from these guys are all excellent swords. So no matter what you get, since you're not buying junk, you won't feel anything but happy about it, I guarantee. Sorry, this went on longer than I expected, I just know pretty well what you're going through. :F Just take the plunge! It won't hurt at all.. hopefully.

Ok back on topic, does anyone know if the Norman and Viking sword use the same blade? Or are they just similar because they are both type X mass produced swords by the same maker?

I believe that everything is sorted out, guys. I tend to make things more dramatic than they actually should be. Anyways, to answer Will's question - I don't own either of the swords yet, but I don't think that they have the same blades. There is a review of the viking, and the pictures are very clear. Compared to the pictures on swordnation, KOA, and this thread, I would guess that the blades are different. The norman also weighs a little bit less according to the listed stats on swordnation and KOA. However, since I am almost certain that I will be acquiring both swords soon, I will let you know for sure.
