Hello and Good-bye All-I've recently been contemplating whether or not to "permanently logout" from SBG for some time now and think it is best. I see the forum going in a different direction than what I first experienced a year ago.
Just wanted to thank (again) all those who've helped and offered suggestions/advice on various topics. Good luck to all.
PEACE

Just curious...what is this 'new' direction? I'm new here myself so I have no prior experience.

I wouldn't give it too much thought, Paladin. The forum, like life, is in a state of constant change. Perception as to it's direction varies depending on one's vantage point and frame of mind or mood. Also have to add in the phases of the moon and chemical reactions in the body, ect.... It will continue to exist as long as it serves a purpose to enough of humanity. Hey, is that you in the avatar? Cool!

I think Rickwilly said it well. I have been a member since Dec 2006 and I have seen the forum evolve as it grows. The forum is a reflection of all the personalities that participate in it at any given time. The forum also reflects a certain openness and understanding that any opinion can be as good as the next. There is no one right way. The only rules are be respectful, no politics, no religion.
Can all this be a bad thing... yes for someone who is seeking a definitive authority on what is the best sword or best technique. This is just an example, I am not implying it was the case with Ndirico.

jeez, do people really post good bye messages now when they decide not to post in / visit a forum anymore?
And you cant say 'i dont like the direction the site seems to be taking' without giving more details!!

I think its a courtesy to tell people you are leaving. Its nice to know that, rather than sitting around scratching ours heads wondering "where has so & so been these past months?" Its when people delete their accounts out of rage, then come right back within a week or two that i don't like. If one needs a break, (as we all do from time to time) then take a break. If one wants to leave for good (for whatever reason) then i (personally) appreciate it when they say "adios". Though, there are cases when this is simply a ploy for attention too...

hmm i guess it would be courtesy to tell people the reasons you are leaving aswell, not just some vague comment 'about directions a website is taking??'
(edit - ive noticed a few comments about the 'direction the site is taking'? Am I missing something here? What direction is SBG supposedly taking lol??)
If anyone ever needs to 'take a break' from a website, deletes an account out of rage, post goodbye messages when you come to the decision you dont want to visit a site aymore, or worry about what has happened to somone who hasnt posted for a while, then I think you need to spend less time on the web!!
Maybe i just dont get it, just seems abit strange / ott to me.

Yeah,... or,... you may happen to care about the other humans you have talked, learned from/with, laughed, comforted, encouraged, or even fought with... The internet is through wires and cables,... but that doesn't mean the relationships made through it are meaningless. For example, we had/have a member who had disappeared for sometime, but before he did he left some really grim comments. No one could get ahold of him, neither at his home, any of his email addresses or myspace. He was a happy guy, who posted regularly, and then one day 'poof'.... gone. Do you say: "its a guy i know from the internet so who cares?" Well, i don't think you'd be human if you didn't at least worry for a second about someone who is a part of our online family. If i talk with someone for over a year, and share my personal stories or experiences with them, and they share theirs with me... And they just up and leave without giving any reason or notice, then i would be sad that they didn't care enough to take a second and say "so long". Not sure why you left Nick, but if you do find your way back here someday it will be nice to talk with you again.

As of June first, sword buyers guide will soon become small star wars mint condition action figures buyers guide. Sweet! I *knew* I came to the right place to unload my vintage Star Wars toys! At last I can dump this sham about interest in swords and get down to business! ;D On a more serious note: A while ago one of SBG's members, Mparish, left the board for a bit. She stated her reasons why; they were well-written and conveyed her thoughts perfectly. Reading that post made me reflect upon *what* I was writing on this board, and why. If you get a chance, take a look at it (she came back later, but that's a story for another posting . Now *there* was someone who was worried about the direction in which this board was going, and wrote how she felt about it. In short: If a person doesn't like the direction the board is taking, they can be a voice that helps change that direction . . . or they can find a place that is more towards their liking. The internet is a big place . --Edward

The internet is through wires and cables,... but that doesn't mean the relationships made through it are meaningless. Actually, I find this very true as I've had some very meaningful relationships with people that started out as internet chat buddies, the most significant of which is a 7+ year marriage that did NOT involve a dating website, but rather a forum about a common interest. The internet is a big place and it does make it easy to find people you have something in common with, even if you are having trouble finding that in the offline world. This is why I appreciate Nick's goodbye even though he was not someone I talked to regularly, but it is a courtesy extended to all of us that needs to be appreciated for what it is, especially in a world where "common courtesy" is becoming increasingly uncommon. So, ndirico, thank you for your courteous farewell, and I wish you the best of luck in life and may the path of your road be made easy for you. As for directions in which the SBG forum is heading, as Ric stated an online forum is in many ways a growing, living, and evolving thing that reflects the varied psyches of those who participate in it - from the knowledge of some and the cutting insight of others to the humor and camaraderie of even more and even my own ignorance which is slowly being washed away with other's knowledge. As a growing, living thing this forum's only constant can be change and that in and of itself is not a bad thing. I personally would like to witness this change awhile longer but for others if the time has come to part ways then I can do no more than wish them the best of their life's journey as I would any friend in the offline world. Namaste to all, Liam B

How about vintage matchbox cars also? I seem to remember collecting those as well in the early days of my youth. There should be an original edition hot wheels Mach 5 somewhere in those boxes - too bad I currently live in a different state from them. Perhaps with that original edition Darth Vader storage case i could come up with some of the back rent I owe after last years lay off's.
