"The sword tells no lies, it speaks only truth, life or death, nothing more, nothing less."
For me the sword is the ultimate symbol of bodily perfection and skill. No matter what I study it is about skill, precision and building myself to be a better person. Swords and weapons embody that for me and I don't care if anyone around me understands that because your journey of martial prowess is personal.

Funny; I have had this very same thought on more than a few occasions...who wouldn't like to charge down a platoon of dirty, filthy Orcs bent on the destruction of your way of life? Maybe that'll be the new diversion for the future- mass produced subhuman 'pells' - nothing organic mind you, but of a material that could mimic organics...you know, they bleed when you cut them, but you'd have the option of turning down the sound if the screams get to be too much. Of course, you'd have your hardcore groups who would require ultra realistic stuff like the organics crapping themselves upon death, screaming death chants and spewing fake blood everywhere. That might be...fun. Ummm well ... I've had kinda a similar idea... only instead of cyberanimate orcs to kill and bleed , I had kind of an idea of a "Blockbuster" where you rent cyberanimate celebs and supermodels to..... erm.... well ... nevermind... but you get the picture.. its a billion dollar idea... I think you'll find those uhh...rental units in the back room with the uh...self-pleasure section. Heh. LOL But you're right, it IS a billion dollar idea...oh man...but would that constitute cheating?

I would say its like those people that collect plates. They never eat off of them but just set them all over to collect dust.
Its kinda like having the mona lisa. I cannot imagine WHY anyone would pay a king's ransom for such an ugly picture but then again, I do not like such things.

Tell that to the Cro-mags and Neanderthals! Oh wait, they're extinct. Cybernetic/holographic enemies might be fun, but I don't want some mega corporation cooking up living sentient beings, just to provide entertaining blood sport. Then again, maybe we are the orcs and trolls, waiting to provide entertainment for another species. (Or game, as in the Predator movies.) Well said, though thousands of years of ancestors probably included a few invaders the other guy was defending his family from.

In the teen years it was works by T.H. White, Tolkien, Terry Brooks and so on. The most ancient of weapons if you are into the Bible, which I am. A clean, simple, elegant weapon, a thing of beauty. And now as a beginning practitioner a symbol of my goal: sharp as when my mind is keen and body fit, holding a true edge as I en devour to live a life of integrity, balanced as seek to be and so on...
