Dude that is cool +1 was that a 12"x12" ply board for the base? I need to make a setup like that for my three year old. He loves swords also though cutlass are more his thing (we like pirates).

No it's 4cm MDF cause that doesn't splinter. Isn't it great to play pirates with your kid? Matthew had 2 foam sword like objects but lost interest after a while. No he has the plastic more realistic and he play's with it alll day.

The cheap open cell foam sword that are commonly found in the summer seasonal toy sections don't have much life expectancy so I'm thinking we'll be moving up to Nerf N-force swords soon as they are quite a bit more substantial. Or daddy needs to make a serious hardware store raid to build some better foam swords.

I've thought about picking up some of the Nerfs for myself, my nephew, and my sister's fiance's son (both 5) to mess about with. Those foam things really don't last at all. Plastic we learned wasn't much better. Maybe those "boffers" DSA and Lancelot Chan sell would be good, though maybe big for the boys...

For the little one I think the Nerf would do nicely or there is a boffer set called M-something that is supposed to be for a fencing type game. Whichever it is I'm just hoping to buy time until I can pick up some PVC and Landau foam to build something better. Lancelot's prices are a little steep for something for the little one.
