I also like Tiger Hook swords. I have a fair bit of hand eye coordination, so I might be able to pick up on it at a reasonable speed. Man, I wish I had at least one talent that could help score me a decent job! But most of them seem to be weapon related. And even then, I am not that great either. ;D

okay, does anybody want me to reopen this poll?
plxix. Jin-Shi does do beautiful work. Several regulars in the Chinese sword section are waiting on orders, or saving up for their work. Swordsage even has a video review of the Han Jian he got from them over at the FilmRookie video hosting site.

As for other weapons in the Chinese arsenal, they didn't get mentioned in this thread as it was sword specific. Upps, sorry, typically me, I just read over the sword in the title... ahem, anyway, it's good to see that there are people out there who are interested in chinese weapons, since I always thought that the european bastard sword and the japanese katana stole a bit too much fame from all the other weapon/sword types. In other words, dao/jian rock! ;D

I guess if I had to choose, it would be the jian for its straightforward simplicity; but I'm not a fan of Chinese swords or Asian weapons in general. Some would call that strange since there is Asian in my heritage but hey, I can't help what I like and what 'speaks' to me.

A lot westerners are interested in collecting Japanese katana and other Oriental swords. And some Japanese are fond of Indonesian/Malaysian keris and Filipino weapons too. A lot has to do with personal preference and there is nothing wrong with it.

Uhm, it may be me, but I don't see any relation between heritage and what weapons one likes? Did I miss something? I always thought what kind of weapon one likes is not biological predisposed but mere personal choice and maybe a bit spiritual influence

Cara: +1 for some very good observations and comments I am in agreement with you that weapons are not a biological predisposition and are a personal choice. Personally for me, I have tried the katana and the broadsword, two handed swords, just about every weapon in both japanese arsenal and european arsenal in terms of swords. When it comes down to it give me a good iron fan or a shuangshou jian or dao any day of the week. I have a great fondness for many of the chinese weapons which makes it difficult to choose one over others. Situation also denotes what weapon I would choose. Against the power of the broadsword I would choose a jian, light and fast good for deflection, against the two handed sword something like the hook swords, I can't outmatch the range or the quickness of the blade but I can seek to lock it up.

I guess what I am saying is that, I know for some at least, their personal choices usually reflect what resonates within them- but too, there is sometimes a pride of being, ethnic or not, that comes out in the choices they make, and the types of weapons they revere.
For me, it has always been the mounted knight; I did some research in the Korean forms and weaponry but it was really like reading a syllabus and I quickly lost interest. You may not, but many have commented on it in the past.

Ah, I see, then it must be my total disassociation with the ideas of ethnicity/race/nationality (and gender, for that matter). These things are social constructions to me, but that is of course just my personal opinion, so no offense meant. If people do see a connection, okay, was a surprise to me. Always good to learn new things, thanks for the enlightenment. But that was enough of high jacking the thread, sorry

I find that I do not care for where the blade comes from, but what really interests me is it's function and it's aesthetics. I like pretty swords that also have a good function. I also love the Dao and stuff like the Rope Dart and Meteor Hammer.

I completely agree on this one with you. Even though I seem to be the only person that dislikes any kind of decoration on his/her weapons. That is of course quite difficult with chinese weapons which tend to be heavily decorated... I don't like mine pretty, the more pragmatic, the better.

I find My Giant Kukri Gorgeous. I have the same thoughts on a Machete. But I also love fancy fittings on a sword as well. I dunno, I am a very versatile person.

I guess we are at the typical "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" (the rest of the group is in its belly... sorry, couldn't resist ;D)
But yes, I think some very simple weapons are quite pretty while some heavily sophisticated designs absolutely do not appeal to me, so it comes down to definition as always... hm, I stumble across that time and again. Definition is power!
