So I bought this sword from a neighbor a few years back (and have since let it rust in the scabbard. BAD ME) for $150, not thinking much of it. I know it's an Estoc, I know I can put it through about 2 inches of hardwood without bending it at all, and I know it was made in Dalian, China (with some sort of horse stamp on it). anyone familiar with the forge... maybe even what the sword is called?

The horse stamp is Hanwei's logo. Hanwei is a reputable manufacturer. That's all I know.

How did you mistreat it? Is it still one piece?

Where might I find a fully functional estoc? I looked at every site that I know of and could not find one. One-handed and long swords and the others I have found quit numerously online. There are no stores in this town that even think about selling swords, not even fake theatrical ones. >.<

I bought this one from a neighbor (we've both moved since then) who ran a sword dealer's website out of his garage. He said he'd had this sword for years and no one ever seemed interested in it, so he sold it to me below cost.

Nice enough find, since its discontinued ages ago holding onto it might be no bad thing if you get it well cleaned up. I wouldnt say its value will sky rocket but it might appreciate a touch in time. It was one of their earlier rapier models,

Hanwei's site says that they are based in Dalian, China, so there's some final confirmation of the Hanwei status. It must be an earlier model, though, becuase I've never heard of Hanwei marking their swords MRL-style. Maybe you could send Hanwei an email about it for more specs... -Slayer

hmm... two-handed, you say? I guess it would be some sort of rapier, then... though it's not edged in any way, more like a long blunt steel spike. I call it an estoc because it seems too heavy, stiff and single-purposed (punching through breastplates) to be any sort of fencing sword.

Earlier rapiers were much more sword like then a lot of people think. It wasn't until much later that fencing swords became quick lightweight toothpicks. It's a modern stereotype that rapiers were lighter than other swords. Oh, and the stiffness is a good thing. Both estocs and rapiers should be quite stiff. I don't mean to say they were slow and overly heavy either, just that they weren't car antennas. Rapiers were around for a long time so there are of course going to be many different styles.
I can't say too much on the subject as it's not my strength or main interest. But I can tell you that's not an estoc. Estocs are a rather odd specialty weapon, related to the rapier by function.
