This entire debate reminds me as to why the Romans had arenas. Can't settle the argument? Fight it out in the arena and let the gods decide. That's how Barbarians did it in a holmgang. The degenerated Romans let gladiators fight for them, mostly for show. Ancient Romans were not a civilized as they thought themselves to be, that is for sure.
In more modern times we had the Code Duello. But these days I would be happy with a nice non-lethal fight with whatever blunts. format and arena agreed on....

Liking Shad or not, I think the real issue is simply the immaturity and arrogance of David in the majority of the content he posts. There's a condescending attitude he carries, especially for someone of his age that just personally rubs me and other wrong including Shad. It's one thing to debate someone's stance, but to be arrogant enough to say someone or something is wrong simply based on your own opinion on a very subjective topic is pretty arrogant.
So yea could be David was just instigating a attack on Shad for clicks or he really is that condescending and arrogant. For example here's two shorts he posted that are pretty laughable, and if you ask me and really shows his true colors his bloated opinion of himself and his condescending attitude towards other sword enthusiasts and historical men at arms.

Wow. RE Second video: While I think he might have a point regarding training opportunities, I sincerely doubt that many HEMA enthusiasts have the real-life experience of shedding blood, or recovering from real injuries, like the majority of fighting folk from the past, nor do they have the resultant reality-based frame of mind. I'm guessing his school doesn't allow punching your opponent in the neck from a bind, poking out his eye, or using one hand to squeeze genitals; I simply laugh at his assumption that Samurai, for one example, never broke bones or suffered lacerations in training, and weren't up to his standard. Professional warriors still die in training, even today. He's a... stereotype.

Agreed, and again the irony of attacking guys like Shad for "fantasy" focused videos while wearing a pirate costume with a Witcher replica on the wall behind him, upgrade him to a hypocritical stereotype.

Seriously, did EITHER of them "draw blood" ? Pot, meet kettle.... Personally I have been in the mix, but never taken a Human life, not looking forward to it either.
As for training and injuries...I have my nose hit and it bleed nicely, actually was good for sympathy while I was doing my promotion test in Chicago ( Grand Master Han Cha Kyo's Dojang )... and my older brother did in fact break his arm, in a non-full contact Dojang...stuff happens.

Blood sausages! Blunt and make a bloody mess nevertheless!! Without padding and protection yes...a "serious" duel does not need to be harmful...at least permanent harm could and should be avoided....but it's all hypothetical as I doubt they will ever do much besides trash one another verbally.
