Hello all,
There have been many additions to this line, and I haven't jumped in yet. I'm thinking about doing so, but not sure which way to go.
Leaning towards the brutus, double edged, 18 inch blade. Looks handy and want to try lacing it onto my pack.
I've read good things about the yatagan as well. I don't like this blade shape as much.
I am also very interested in the jian.i don't have anything like that in my collection. It looks very light and wields, and just a lot of fun. It's a lot longer so I am probably less apt to want to take it places camping or hiking, but for potential apoc blade self defense I'd like the longer blade no doubt.
I'm a suckered for a broadsword and a kukri as well, so drawn to both of those. Less interested in the long sword.
Just looking for feedback or recommendations.
If you didn't have any apoc swords where would you start?
Brutus/jian/broadsword/kuk?

Also to be very fair, I've got a fair armory.
Zombie tools xiphos, vakra, and reaver cleaver.
I've got *most* of the cold steel machete/sword options. Gladius, kukri, royal kukri, katana (Gave to nephew), waki, and tanto. Chinese war sword, big bear bowie, jungle machete...uh...most of them.
The royal kukri is the best for precise cuts on thin mediums, vines, branches etc.
The big Chinese dadao machete reminds me of a reaver cleaver on a diet. It cuts above its weight class. I would grab that to clear a room of zomboids.
Defense against people is handled by modern weapons, but if I had to the waki and gladius machetes are fearsome.
The cold steel gladius machete is a tough hombre apart from the tip. I've cleared fair sized trees with it, no problem. They nailed the heat treat on the 1055. On my royal kuk it will need a few passes after use. No idea why the difference.
Anyway. Leaning towards the apoc brutus or jian most likely..

My jian is a really good all-round light nimble fencing sword. The broadsword has more blade presence, feels like a much bigger sword than it is, but not heavy, together with a shield it would be a better battle weapon than the jian. The longsword is a real gem if you don't need a classic hilt. Very good balance or mass distribution, really usable single handed. I don't own the Brutus because I like the longer swords of all the tactical sword makers like Zombie Tools, APOC, CS etc.
