When I was a kid, I saw the movie "Bad Boys" on HBO( not the Will Smith/Martin Lawerence movie, but the Sean Penn/Mr. Krabbs juvie drama.) and one scene really stood out. In it, Sean Penn makes a weapon out of coke cans and a pillow case, and proceeds to whoop the cr so out of his would-be aggressors. I recently had the bright idea to try this out. (If you don't plan on having to clock somebody more than a couple of times, it works pretty good.)

A rock in a sock, preferably long, or moist sand will also work. A drink can in a pillow case is a new one for me, but why not? I saw a Lynn Thompson CD of unscrewing then putting a pommel in a sock. I’m still trying to figure the point to that one.

This sort of improvised weapon falls under the category of "slungshot". I'd rather a solid stick but you can put a slungshot in your pocket like a sailor come to port. Explicitly illegal in some states.
